Drives like a Buick, but it threw me back into the seat.

Mrs. Dunderhi borrowed my car in the middle of the day visit the dentist. Her daily driver is the 335d Sport with BBS RGRs, so it handles really well. So that is her frame of reference. In the evening when we we heading out to dinner, we had the following conversation:

She: Now I understand why you insist on pushing those buttons whenever you get in the car. I took a turn pretty hard and I was like crap, this thing drives a like a Buick! That's okay though, I hit it to beat some guy at the light and it threw me back into the seat.

Me: Well it looks like you had it on Comfort Mode.

She: Yeah, I didn't know which buttons to push, but I also parallel parked it without any cameras. It's been a long time since I had to parallel park a car this big."

Me: Did you scrape my wheels?"

She: No, but when I hit the button I got the back-up camera, so I don't know which button is for the cameras

Me: Same button, just hit it two more times if you get the back-up camera by mistake.

She: That's okay, I don't think I'll get to drive this car much.

Me: Okay, tell me about this guy you beat. Did you take it above 4000 rpms?

She: I don't know, this guy was inching up on the light, so hit it and threw me back in the seat.

Me: Did you win?

She: Well, yeah.

Me: Well you know if I get new springs it will firm up the ride and won't drive like a Buick in any mode.

She: Maybe that would be a good idea.

Guess who's getting new springs?

No title, just want a car that goes fast in any direction I point it. I was hoping for the Dinan suspension reprogram would do the trick, but Needsdecaf's ARS testing has me thinking that the springs might need some stiffening. I figure I'll do the springs now and wait and see if I still want a reprogram when it is released.

Ignore the wife comments. She has only driven my car twice, and she's won two races.

My current estimates:
Mixed Country driving gets 19mpg
+ Dinan Stage 1 drops to 18mpg
+ Run A/C only in May-Aug climbs to 20mpg
+ Drop rolling weight by 71lbs climbs to 21mpg

The future
+Dinan Stage 2 drops to 20 mpg

Anyway, I did some research last night, and it turns out the springs will be the cheap part of the equation. I have seen posted labor estimates for the F10 xDrive range from 5 to 10 hours. So it could be as high as $1,400 in labor to install $300 H&R springs.

Maybe I should "spring" for $900 RDSport springs just so the labor won't seem so high.

I read the rear AC springs for the F10 had a bouncy ride in the xDrives and AC was in the process of designing new springs. I'm not sure if they are any more or less bouncy than any other springs. So far, I've found H&R, AC Schnitzer, Eibach, and RDSport springs. Anyone know of any others for the F10?

Are the RD Sport Springs even in stock anyplace?

In any event, I was driving home from a meeting tonight and had the speeds up, uh, pretty good to get home. I noticed when you hit bumps, the front gives a little "bob" to it. This car definitely could benefit from stiffer springs, IMO.

Interesting, I got up to speeds up to on the way home tonight too. Mrs. Dunderhi suggested that "maybe the car should come with two speed warnings, one at 86mph as a warning and the other at 110mph for now I'm serious." She then said maybe "you should just set it a 110 so will only go off once in a while." I'm not afraid to admit it, I love this woman!


Anyway, I haven't checked availability yet, but I noticed RDSport seems to be the only one that has a choice between adaptive drive and non-adaptive drive springs. I'm going to guess the the adaptive drive springs are softer. Anyone have any other ideas?

since the M5 is on the way, and already in europe,
with a little bit of good will and the help of european members, you could
find an M5 vin # and trace down the parts for the M5 suspension?
then order...
