DIY for USB/iPhone interface? - Bimmerfest

Hi all,

I've been looking and looking and i cannot find any clear information. I just got 2008 128i convertible. It has premium package and bluetooth, but no USB connection, only regular Aux plug. I do not have navigation, only regular stereo. I want to add USB so i can connect my iPhone or USB flash drive with music. I want to be able to control the songs from the steering. Does anyone know part numbers or how to do that? My BMW advisor has no idea what i am talking about so i have given up talking to him.

My 2011 328xi has USB and i use the standard Apple cable with my phone. It charges and i can control the songs. I want to add the same to the 128. Also i used to have 2003 325 convertible and i added DICE to it, which i was pretty happy with. I don't see that works on 1 series either? Can anyone shed some light or options please? Appreciate it.

I have an 09' 128i with navi & I spoke with my dealer today. The parts are $370 and the labor is $640. I would assume you could install it yourself if you know your way around the car but it won't work until BMW activates it and updates your software to support it. Kind of a huge pain for a factory option that costs half that! I wish my cars previous owner would have just added it on. :-\

That can't be. $1000 just to add USB?

I'm curious about this also. My 2011 135i has the usb port, but my iphone doesn't work with the regular apple cable (the car says "not supported" when i plug it in, although it charges). My car has all the packages added, so i'm wondering what i'm missing...is it just a software upgrade?
