lol good thing you didn't put a link... I might have swooped in
64 seems about the higher end of teh market, from what I've seen with my used car interactions I've only managed (paying cash mind you) to move dealers between $1100-400 even though I know the market clearly dictates less.

Agree with 60K or less. 75K is MSRP and nobody pays that. 60K is reasonable depreciation off invoice. 2012 models are already shipping.

I also attempted to buy a used 2011, but I found the economics to be unattractive compared with new 2012 given how high the used car prices were.

In my case the price for the used car was more than the price of an ED on a 2012. Given 2012 has 7k less miles and much better resale value, it was a no brainer choice.

yep, this is higher end of the range, no dice here. Loosing faith in this deal as I priced their wheel/tire package and they are hitting me over the head with that too! WTF

the number of used(1 year old) F10 cars with some good options is very low. i think its easier to get a deal on a used 535 .. after couple of years the scenario will be opposite |

While I was shopping for a car for my daughter in July, I happened upon a dealer who does a large volume of high end used vehicles and asked about used F10. He said the prices are out of whack, probably because of the limited supply, so he was staying away from them at that time.

1) 1 year old used cars are very rare. So not much price competition. Off-lease vehicles is where you get good deals, but no off lease F10s. 2) Many people who don't know how to get a good deal on a new one are willing to buy a current year used one if its close to new invoice. 3) Used car prices are ridiculously high. One of my friends sold an 07 GS350 for $31.5k. You can buy that new for $47k if you shop around. That's a ridiculous price for a 4 year old car. It seems all used car prices are high. See this article. In this article Jalopnik's analysis shows that the price of a 3 year old car has gone up about 50-60% since 2007. That's a staggering increase in used car values. I don't think it has financially made sense to buy used since 2009. If used cars prices stay this strong, I am going to do ED every year and sell my car every year.

I understand supply and demand but there are plenty of non m packet 550i or XIs around selling under 60k with one selling for 57k without actual negotiations. So the question is does M Pack really add that much value?

Pros: Front bumper is really good/better than the stock. Cons: 1) The wheels on sport package looks better than the M package 2) The rear bumper really spoils the look , for some reason i dont like the blackened look but it looks good on white and silver though 3) will loose the silver lining on steering wheel 4) will loose illuminated door sills |

Also, the GS may not be the most representative example. Because they are not selling well right now and a new model is around the corner, the deflated as-new price makes the depreciation (or lack thereof) look astonishing. But this is a fleeting moment in time where the 'new' price is lower than normal. It would be akin to looking to at 2009 E350s or 2008 M3s now and basing one's expectations around the trunk-money laden clearance pricing of summer 2009 and Feb 2009, respectively. The last E350s sold for high 30s, low 40s that summer, and now they are CPO $30-35K depending on options. Not much depreciation in 24+ months. That's because the market usually doesn't price used cars around a minority of owners' new prices. Otherwise every single ED-available BMW would be selling in the used US market off ED pricing, and we know that isn't the case. When you sell your car, will you sell at current US market prices (which will be based off the majority of purchases somewhere between US invoice and MSRP)? Or will you sell it at an ED discount?

With the M-Sport package you get a nice, thick steering wheel instead of the standard skinny steering wheel that they use on the X3 and 3 series.

Based on all the incentives available, you should be able to get a new one ~10% off msrp these days. Why not spend a few grand more to have the peace of mind knowing that you are getting a vehicle that will be broken in properly?

Agree. OP can get new for same price as his used quote. Dealers want to move cars. It really is amazing how quickly they'll knock off another grand or two. Especially if he's in a market with several dealerships.

The thing is that I suspect your dealer is trying to make 15K on you... in any case If you have that money I think you should go on a new one and negotiate it for a 9% MSRP total including the discounts and incentives. that I had in time. you need to play hard. be firm and get a new car.:thumb up: Its pointless to negotiate on a slightly used one because they all want to sell it close to a new. I am reminding you that the most profit by a dealer is made on a used car and not a new. You want him to make as less as possible. Last edited by bmw_enthusiasm; 10-04-2011 at 08:57 PM. |

i am looking for a specific car and want m pack, thus '11 supply of these cars is limited. Difficult to negotiate when there are two of these cars around.

there are dealers who will do it. Go in the end of the month like 2 days before and hit them hard. Every month, on the 11th hour, they will sell their mom. then they become asses again till the end of next month. Last edited by bmw_enthusiasm; 10-04-2011 at 09:33 PM. |
