Switches are notorious for corroding. Try switching one from a window that works. Other than that: wiring and connectors, electrical motor or connector, or possibly a window regulator. Use a test light or a voltmeter on the plug that goes to the switch, it should just pop out if you pry up on it.

Does the rocker switch just pop up out of the panel?

Yes, it should. You can use a very small screwdriver or something similar to pry it out.

Yeah. It's broke. Seems to happen a lot with BMW windows.

Well I finally got around to popping out the rocker switch, and found that the backing plate had come off and all the wires fell out of the block. I tried the switch in another window plug, and it works fine. Now I need to know if any body has a wiring diagram that shows the position of the five wires in the plug.

I would think the wiring color code on the other switch is the same.

Hey Catso, I tried wiring the switch the same as another one, but it didn't help. Do you know where I can find out for sure the correct position of the wires?

Here's what I could find in the Bentley's repair manual for an E28 (which should be similar) The Haynes repair manual also has a copy of a similar diagram...... LEFT FRONT: TERMINAL #5-BROWN, 3-RED, 8-BLUE, 1-BLACK, 4-BROWN....... RIGHT FRONT: 4-BROWN, 1-BLACK, 8-BLUE, 3-RED, 5-BROWN........ My guess is the red wire supplies power to the switch. First put a test light on the red to make sure there's power.
