2011 535xi Demo - Need Help

Hello all,

I am a current owner of a BMW 328i and am looking to upgrade to a 2011 BMW 535xi. I am currently looking at a "demo" (not a loaner) and am trying to determine what type of discount I should expect. The vehicle is driven only by the service manager and has 1,200 miles on it.

MSRP is $61,175. I estimate invoice to be @ $56,275. According to my data there are BMW incentives totaling $4,230 ($1,730 option credit, $1,500 discount, $1,000 loyalty) - this would get me down to $52,045. My current negotiated price is $52,945.

If it was a brand new car then I would ay great deal - since it is a demo - I am not sure if I should be expecting more.

Please help!

Thanks

You should be expecting more. It's not a new car and you don't get any CPO warranty assistance since it's never been titled. Show them your numbers, tell them you can buy a new car at $300 over inovoice and ask them where their discount is?

Also, are you sure that all those discounts combine? The $1730 and the $1,500 might not.

Warranty is out to December 2015 and has been extended to 55,000 miles. I am confirming that all the discounts apply to the best of my knowledge they do.

I think it all depends on how long you want to keep the car. I would be leary of a demo because you know it probably has been driven hard. I drive my car hard myself but really babied it in the first 1,200 miles to all the engine to break in. I also think the deal is not that great.

Moreover, I don't care if the "Service Manager" drove it -- if he likes to beat on cars you can bet he's done that since it's not his.

Ever rent a car?

This is my own personal opinion, but demos should be appraised using the KBB Used Car Value; for some reason, citing the "never been titled" excuse, dealers are able to get away with a lot more. Good for them.

I'd find a brand new 535xi for $300 over invoice if I were you, unless the dealer would sell the demo for, oh, $42,000.

15 percent ( more or less) off of msrp seems like a good price

Exactly. A new 2011 535xi should be available at a little over invoice, less all the rebates you and the car qualify for:

$1,730 nav option credit or $1,000 on cars w/o nav
$1,500 regional
$1,000 loyalty
$1,000 team USA Olympic

So unless you are getting a HEFTY discount on the demo version, what's the point?

Dealers don't really discount demos enough usually so in essence they become crappy buys. Don't forget, if you lease it excess mileage over 500 gets charged.30 mile and cut off the residual. Also all new car incentives get added to demos.
