Tinting Recommendation for Space Gray Metallic
Hi,
Looking for pictures/recommendations for tinting (percentage/type) to go on a 535i that is space gray metallic with a black interior. I'm thinking of 35% all around, except the windshield which I'm thinking of leaving as-is. I'm in Vegas, so lots of sun/heat. Thanks in advanced! |

Check your state laws on legal maximums. I have 35% all around which is legal limit in CT. They allow you to go lower in the rear, but in my opinion that looks wrong.
You don't do windshield, max visibility needed for driving. 20% is very dark, almost privacy tint. Some cars in the sun belt go 20% but depends what look you are after. At night it looks completely black. 35% cuts out 2/3 of the light and 50% of the heat from the sun. It is quite a nice enhancement and colors are more vibrant wen you look out from the car. As if it were wearing polaroid sunglasses. Tint will also help preserve the leather interior from sun damage. |

I just tinted my Space Grey 2008 528xi at 50% which is the max in Minnesota for cars. Yes, it is light but even so looks great. The cops are pretty tough up here so I did not want to give them anything else to pull me over for.
I used Bravo Protection Products who use LLumar film. Could not be happier although I wish I could gone 35% all around! |

35% is the legal limit for the front sides so that's why I'm thinking 35%. I don't think I want to mix front/back sides. My question/concern is I don't want to go gangster, so it's probably between 50 and 35%?? Looking for a good mix of look and functionality.
Does 50 help much? What would be an expectation on price? Do people usually do the moonroof too? Sent from my ADR6350 using Bimmer |

If 35% is the legal limit, that is what I would do! I would have gone 35% all around if I could have legally. 50% does help but up here in MN we definately have much different climate. For me it makes the car look nicer!! For all windows except windshield and sunroof I paid $200.00 installed. I did not do the sunroof as here I do not think many people do here but where you are I would do the roof.
Hope that helps. |

do the max legal % all the way around. you might want to go a little darker on the back window to help with the heat unless you have the sunshade. on the front windows and backseat windows do the same percentage for an even look.

I paid $200 to have mine done. Maybe a tad high but the guy did a great job and it is guaranteed for life. Any scratches and he will redo it.
Go 35%. You need all you can get in the desert. It will look great, not too gangsta, just right for the car. I can send some pics of mine if you pm me an email. I have a black sedan and a deep sea blue wagon, both 35% all around. |

I would go as low as you can while still staying within the legal limit. I think our stock windows have a slight tint OEM so that might make difference as to how dark the tint can be. I have many friends that work in the justice system (attorneys and police officers), an illegal tint is a favorite reason to pull someone over to avoid that hassle stay within the limit.
As for type of tint, I would go with a higher end film - perhaps a ceramic film.

I would agree, my cousin is a State Trooper in MN and he told me to stay legal as it is just another thing to get stopped for! They love an easy way to stop people. I hate that my great state legal limit is only 50%!

Munich is right, I totally forgot. The car comes with a little tint so I went with a 38% which comes out to effectively 35% when adding the car's glass. The tint shop should know.
