E38 Front left lower control arm with bushing

Can't dislodge screw from its housing on ball joint end. Nut is off and bushing end is disconnected but is there a trick to getting the ball joint screw to drop down to remove? It's frozen and the area is cramped so it is hard to hammer down on the screw. Ball joint kits don't want to fit in tight area. I've lubricated the bolt, and hammered on the control arm, but it won't budge. Help! Thanks

Perhaps heat the knuckle and see if that helps.

Update

Madurodave:

Thanks for the reply. I was finally able to figure out how to use a loaner tool that presses out the bolt and after alot of pressure it finally snapped loose. I think the bolt should be removed before the bushing end in the future.

I ran into another problem that I couldn't solve alone when re-installing the control arm. The long bolt through the bushing would not align with the second hole after passing through the bushing. When turning the bolt the bushing would also move around and not allow the bolt to center through the hole. Finally, I limped down to the Indy and had him push it through and put the nut on. No charge. Probably took him 5 minutes. Next project will be to determine if crimped speed sensor wires are causing intermittent ABS, Brake and DSC lights to appear. Already replaced the speed sensor.
