Used 2008 528i vs 2008 535i
Hi - I am looking at purchasing a used 5 Series and need some advice.
The two best options locally are: 1. 2008 528i with premium pkg and approx 45K miles for 26K 2. 2008 535i with premium pkg and approx 45k miles for 29K Neither car is CPO, both are 1 owner and clean carfax. The car is for my wife (not a performance nut) and we have test driven both cars and understand the performance difference. My question here is which one is a better deal? and is there a difference as far as maintenance/realiability/repair costs between the two models? Thanks for your help! |

If you are not a performance nut, go with the 528. If your turbos go bad I heard it's around 14K. That being said, I just had the Dinan stage 2 software installed today on my 2008 535i. Amazing performance!

Where did that come from? Turbo units are only $650 each... labor for $13K+?

Going back to the OP - if you just want a nice car to drive from point A to B I would take the 528i. It is a great car. If however you love additional power more than you can use most of the time get the 535i.

Ask your wife which car she likes better. The price difference is fair, but if they are optioned identically and she doesn't need the extra hp then why pay for it.
My wife routinely hits 90 mph on the highway and I have seen her fly up hills around town. She enjoys the extra zip of a tuned 535 wagon. Cracks me up. Maybe I'll surprise her and add a meth kit. |

-Are both cars identically equipped? Run through a check-list on each car to see if one has an option the other does not. Heads Up Display, Folding Rear Seats, Navigation, Cold Weather Package, Sports Package, Active Steering, Sport Auto Transmission etc...
-On the 535, check to see if it's had the latest High Pressure Fuel Pump installed under recall. If not, you could be looking at a headache down the road if it starts acting up... -Are these cars on a dealer's lot, or being sold by individuals? |
