Navigation CD/system

My navigation CD pops out after 5-10 minutes of my using the navigation system. Once I reinsert the CD, the navigation system works just fine, but only temporary. What seems to be the problem with the navigation CD/system?

You wouldn't happen to live or drive near the edge of one of the map regions?

Thank you for your reply. I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and I have a BMW navigation DVD for region 2: Northwest and Southwest. The navigation system works just fine in town, but once I am on a highway, after about 10 minutes of driving, I lose GPS. The GPS option on the display screen is not available anymore, and I know that the DVD in the trunk of the car is ejected. I still get all of the important info regarding my trip (miles to destination, estimated time of arrival, fuel consumption, etc.). Once I insert the DVD back into the DVD player in the trunk of my car, GPS starts up again. If I am in town, then GPS works just fine.

Q - now you've got me wondering.....I had always thought that even if you had a Calif. CD, if you traveled to say, New York, although you wouldn't get any street level info, I thought you'd still get the major US highway info. If you needed detailed info, you'd need to change out CDs.

But, your comment now makes me wonder, as I sure wouldn't have thought the CD would eject once you crosed out of the boundaries......

Sealbeach...I'm not certain about the "ejection" of the CD...I was merely grasping at straws. My assumption was there might be a possibility depending on the firmware and Nav unit (MkII/MkIII) etc.

Somewhere in the back of my cerebral cortex...there seems to be a memory of someone saying they received a message that the CD needed to be changed when driving into a different region. But as far as the CD ejecting itself...again, that was just a wild assumption.

I was hoping that someone with more knowledge may have chimed in at his point. So to the OP...you may want to try the NAV forum on www.bimmerboard.com ...there are some really knowledgeable members over there about the various nav systems. Maybe they've heard or experienced a self ejecting CD before.

Good luck, and report back any updates.
