Driver's seat doesn't slide all the way back

Has anyone seen this? My power driver's seat has suddenly decided to stop its slide to the rear about 5" short of normal. This leaves room for me but not anyone taller. The slides are free of obstructions. It seems the seat hits a hard stop almost as if the drive gears have reached the end.
I will pull the seat and check this out but hope for some prior experience.
Many thanks,
Chris

If it slides at all then it is usually some debris that you can not see by looking under the seat.

Just tried again. The power seat moves back smoothly without obstruction and then just stops. Is there any sort of limiter switch which stops the seat from going too far forward or back? Maybe I need to remove the seat and really explore but ...
Thanks Frank and Rami.

Chris:
I have the EXACT same problem! This happened a couple of years ago. I ignore it because I have short legs and I don't let the girls drive my car (not that their legs are much longer anyway)! I could never find an obstruction or any reason for why it just stops where it does. Totaling baffling!

Well, if Fud and I have the same problem, we will solve it for all of you. Short legs and all.
:-)

If you're comfortable with the seat position you have now, you don't really have to dig in this and get it fixed as there's no major effect. I've had mine with non working headrest for 2 years, but it really has never bothered me or made me think about getting it fixed. However, if you don't feel comfortable, then "NeverSayNever".

Rami,
I agree. But the only time (and I mean only) is when I need to use my computer in my car and need as much lap room as possible. Just happened a few days ago or I would have never noticed the issue. (I think the forum might have field day with the lap comment. :-) )

My guess is there is a quarter or other coin stuck in there vertically that you cannot see. Did you stick something in the rails and feel for an obstruction?

That kind of thinking is exactly what I love about this tribal forum!

One by one, we all resolve issues ... and ... if, by doing so, we edify the rest ... then the first to solve these help all the rest.

As the saying goes, "We all stand on the shoulders of giants" ... so ... for this particular problem, Chris and Fudman are the (perhaps short-legged) giants who will lead the way.

Beautiful as usual, Bluebee. Waxing eloquent (no pun intended). Anyway, I will solve this with Fud (or not) and let you all know. I have a haunting feeling the coin in the track suggestion may be right, but only seat out exploration will tell.

Chris:
Let me know when you want to get together to look at this. I have already looked for obstructions and there are none. And this exact problem happened on my previous e39. I even posted a thread on this a few years back. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=810497 I know my current one worked fine until one day I tried to slide it back for cleaning and it stopped a half inch beyond where it sits. We can pull the damn seat off, if necessary, to check everything. A truly baffling phenomenon.

Fud, I am interested in pulling the seat and will look to you for another collaborative effort.
Thanks,
CL

Update. My driver's seat now goes all the way back without any repair. Seems when the seat is raised up, it is restricted in how far it will push back. So, I simply lowered the seat and then powered it back all the way. Duh... So, that's that. Hope I didn't waste your time.
Thanks,
CL

Driver seat issues

The link for this fix does not work. I am having the same problem with the drivers seat only going back half way. I am not able to remove seat, because the seat will not go back far enough to remove front bolts. PLEASE HELP!
