Anyone out there have a how to program your garage door opener for idiots how-to for me? I spent the good part of 45 minutes trying to figure it out to no avail.

Any help is appreciated,

I can't give you blow by blow instructions but follow the manual very closely. You'll need to push the button on the garage door opener (probably blue or red) and very quickly come back to the car with the transmitter holding it close to the button under the mirror and pressing till the door rises. It's quite a few steps but it will work. Took me a couple of shots at it before mine took. I have the rolling codes also.

This is almost as hard as changing your own wiper blades.

Following the car manual procedure did it for me (holding the original garage door opener sending unit near the rear view mirror 3 buttons) but I know there are many garage door receiver setups and you should probably try to find the instructions from the garage door opener as well to see if you would need a second person on a ladder with the cover off the opener motor housing......

Laser makes a good point. My button is located very easily on the back of the motor so getting to it (via) a step ladder and getting back inside the car was fairly easy. Using a second person would certainly help. This is something where very careful reading and following the manual is absolutely necessary. Decided not to program the third car side because of the tedious nature.

It is quite simple:

1) Press the Start button with your foot OFF the brake to turn on accessories in the car.

2) press buttons 1 and 3 on the home link (below the mirror) until they start blinking slowly (about 20 seconds). This erases all previous stored codes in the car.

3) Take your garage door remote control inside the car.

4) Press AND HOLD the desired button on the mirror (1, 2 or 3), and with your other hand press AND HOLD the button on the garage door remote control. In a few seconds, the button on the mirror will start blinking slowly.

5) At this point, the code is stored in the car, and now you need to have the garage door motor LEARN the new code, so you have to get on a ladder and climb behind the control unit. There should be a red button. Most of them, you just need to press and release the red button, and it will start blinking.

6) Get down from the ladder, get in the car and PRESS AND HOLD the chosen button on step 4 for a few seconds (5 to 10).

7) Release the button. Now it should work.

I normally have my son inside the car and ask him to do step 6 for me while I'm still up the ladder... Works every time!

Hope this helps.

This short video should help. It's for MB, but it should be applicable for any car with HomeLink. The rolling code instructions are given
in the latter part of the video. There are several videos in this series, so just wait until you see the garage-door-video
pop up:
