Mein Auto: 96 318ti
96 318ti with 95 325i engine/ews problems

Ok I am sure this has been covered but after days and hours of searching I am still no closer to a solution.

Ok what I have done is swapped out the 1.8 for the 2.5. I managed to get the dme and ews module from donor car, however the key was missing. No big deal I "thought" I could get a new key cheap (wrong). Dealer wont cut one without registration as we all know. 299 if I send ews to someone to have a key made.

So next I thought ok why not just order a 413 red label of ebay to bypass ews. Wrong again. Aparantly red label won't fit in a MS41.1 connector. No mention of that on any boards that I could find. Ugh!

So here we go back to square one. No fuel and no spark. Tons of extra parts and a still dead 318ti. What am I missing? I have even searched ebay for a dme/ews/key set, but I just cant see spending 700 for something I already have duplicates of.

your best bet would be to go check 318ti.org, but your first big issue is going obd1 on an obd2 chassis. it can be made to work, but is not as easy as what people would think. the modules all communicate with one another and could cause all sorts of issues like this.

there are a lot of guy on the ti forum that have done swaps like this, as well as with s5x motors, so they should be better able to get you running again.
