Canadian 550xi. Which winter tires/rims from tirerack?

Looking for the winter tires/rims set for the Canadian 550xi.

As far as I know - I need tires size 245/45 R18, and rim size 18 * 8 et 30
(since 17" would not fit).
Also in Canada we do not need TPMS - since it's in the ABS.

Tirerack has only one RFT option - Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 RFT. Are there any known issues with it?
Most of my drive would be on a quite cleaned roads, but snow mess sometime would be too. I'd prefer RFT for the winter.

Now about rims - will Avarus AV6 fit my car?
Is there are any issues, advices, etc about it as well?

Does anybody could suggest who to contact at the tirerack - to make sure that this would fit.. I am thinking to drive south to change tires on my other car and pickup this set - since shipping to Canada and price difference would be more than $500..
(Here dealer quoted winter set to $3500, or tirerack to Canada is $2500, or much less if I pickup them in US..)

Why don't you try Tires23 in Mississauga as they are running a Group Buy and their prices are very reasonable. Just pick a set of M3/M5/M6 BMW replica rims (approx. $800) + your preferred choice of winter tires (approx $1200) = $2000-$2200 all taxes & mounting & installation incl.

I have advised other bloggers from the GTA to consider such.

Here is a typical example from Simply Tire http://www.simplytire.com/winter/bmwpdf.pdf
See Page 4 of the attachment. M5 Replia rims + choice of tire = setup ... + HST + Tire Levies

You can use Simply Tire price list (usually higher than others) to compare shop with Tires23

thank you! that really simplifies the task.

What the preference for winter RFT - Bridgestone or Dunlop?

BMW sells Dunlop as OEM, but I have Dunlop Wintersport M3 (235-45/17) on my Lexus and I am really not that happy - couple times they really refused to brake on the wet road when temperature was +5C..

Bloggers like:
Dunlop WS 3D (RF is available - that's the one I currently have) - Pretty good
Bridgestone LM60 (No RF available)
Michelin PA3 (RF is available)

I had Bridgestone LM25 (non RF) 4 years ago and they were pretty good as well.

Thanks for the suggestion - I've kept it simple and just bought a set from Simply Tire - Dunlop M3 on the M5 Replica rims.

That Simply Tire shop looks very nice, people there seems to really know what is needed for the BMW, and also they have road-force balancer (Hunter)

I'm curious as to what winter tires you finally ordered? I had dealer provide 4 Dunlops last year and quite honestly they suck (I know I know, living in Calgary I should have waited for the 550xi model).

I've recently been told that Nokian's new Hakkapeliitta 7's are available in western Canada. Anyone else have / getting these?

Studded is prohibited in Ontario..
At least in the non-rural areas

Regular studded tires are also banned here in AB (and BC). These aren't your father's studded tires ..... technology has enabled them to recess the studs on "floating anchors". They're only releasing them into selected markets in western Canada this year. More later (just order 4)
