She's home - First impressions and pics

Picked up my new coupe last night. The thing that has impressed me the most is that this evolution of the 6 is a work of art. Some of the tiny details added to the car are more than just functional, but are exceedingly pleasing to the eye. There is SO much detail in this car, after spending about an hour sitting in it to figure out the iDrive and other features, I don't think I've even scratched the surface.

So many new things to fall in love with:

Features - Auto Halt, 4 modes of driving (Comfort+, Comfort, Sport and Sport+)
Details - the M package body panels, the molding of the door panels, lighting (inside and out have changed)
Sounds - The engine sounds absolutely incredible
Ride - Been driving on Comfort+ and it has amazing smoothness while letting you know "I have a ton more power if you need it!"

Think automatic parking brake during rush hour stop-and-go traffic - when you come to a halt (while on the highway) it auto-engages the parking brake and the moment you press the gas, it releases the brake. This way you don't have to keep depressing the brake while in rush hour traffic.

DSB looks hawt...the new 6 is really growing on me.

But not sure about the "M pkg" - to my knowledge, North America is the only BMW market where M pkg has no M performance parts, i.e. sport suspension, upgraded brakes, bushings, etc. "M" used to Mean performance and exclusivity. These days, in my view anyway, the BMWNA stripped away "M"'s performance and left us with cosmetics: different style wheels, body kit, badges here and there. In fact, the M badges are so commonplace, from skid plates to floor mats to steering wheels, that one could argue that the dilution of the 'M' branding is done on purpose. Can't imagine M Group guys being happy about it.

It's the Auto H. button on the center console.

Think I'm stuck with it since you can't change your avatar on the board. It crossed my mind once or twice as I was working to purchase the coupe.

+1 IMHO kind of in the realm of how AMG adorns many MB cars. The E46 ZHP, and E92/E93 "is" cars are perfect examples of what I knew "M-Sport" to be. Basically an in-between model - sports vs. full spec M car.

Do keep in mind that nowhere on the car does it say M (other than to another 6er owner who knows *those* bumpers are M bumpers, etc). And while it has an "increased top speed limiter" I think that is the part that's kind of the bogus "it's JUST like an M" on BMW's part, because is isn't and we all know it. I wanted the body kit (love that look) and truly probably wouldn't want an actual M (too much car for me).

Actually the wheels do have M badges...

I understand posters' concerns, and this would have been easily solved by describing it as an aero kit. I think it really looks good on the car, and would have bought it anyway. Clever packaging put it together with other bits I wanted: all LED lighting, and these wheels...

OK, ok - you both have me. I meant more along the lines that it doesn't have the M badge on the rear deck. But I see your point. It's at very least whispering "mmmmmmm".

Nick, the new ride looks great - congratulations!

Not to hijack the thread, as it is great to see the coupes are arriving, but back to the AutoHalt...has anyone noticed if the brake lights are lit while stopped. From inside the car, I felt they weren't, which concerns me that you could be stopped in the roadway with no brake lights and approaching traffic nmay not realize it.

Congrats! Glad you love the new coupe as much as the rest of us. A little confusion on the post -BMW calls it the "auto hold" switch vs "auto halt". Interesting about the brake lights if the auto hold is on. I'll check it out.
Have you noticed you have three ways of determining how much gas/miles remaining? You have the miles to empty, the fuel gauge itself, and the semi-circular bar under the speedometer that list miles to empty in a red bar graph. Holy smokes...you can't run out of gas if you paying any attention to the gauges at all.
White looks great on the M option. Shows off all the curves. That's why brides wear it! Ha!
The top speed limiter is also upped to 155 if you purchase the 20" wheel option so it is not limited to the M options.

Congrats Nick! That coupe really does look great, love the M-pkg. I will say this, I thought twice about the coupe (never thought once about the vert!), but I still don't think I'll be swayed. I am planning a trip to the dealer in a few weeks, so maybe... maybe I could be cajoled into something just like that, maybe with some fire red interior of some sort.

But either way, congrats! Enjoy it in good health my friend, and let me know when you are back up this way so we can get together again!
