Satellite Ready Radio in X5

Hi, What does the above mean? What do you have to do to get Sirius in a BMW X5 that is yet to be built? The only option is Premium Sound, which is $1500, which includes Sirius for 1 year.

Thanks!

All new BMW's come with Sirius Satellite "ready" as part of the audio systems, regardless of wether it's the Base or Premium. Later, they simply add an additional module behind the existing radio. It uses the same antenna already in place. The only consideration is cost. $350 from the Factory or $500+ at the dealerships.

Some newer models include Satellite radio with the premium sound package.

They've grouped the SAT module with the Premium Sound Package to help justify the cost of that package. Given the prevalence of SAT radio use these days, it would be better for the consumer to have it grouped with the already pricey Premium Package.

On 2010 and beyond cars .... There is nothing physically added. The hardware is all there. Sirius is just enabled by adding it to vehicle order and coding the CIC.

You're not really serious, are you? Name ONE business reason for them to give away 'sirius ready' cars:

Yup- all you need is a cde, no addl module. HOWEVER, it is not cheap nor easy to obtain the code. It is a custom code matched to your VIN.
