e32 Stock radio

Hi all.

I have an e32 740i.
I have a strange problem and I do hope that someone here can help me sort my issue.
What I am experincing is the following:

The radio comes up with "CODE WAIT". Not I know that you're supposed to leave it switched on for 2 hours, except the following.
When I switch the radio on, it switches on and displays the above mentioned and then torns itself off after 30 seconds. I disconnected the battery for 2 hours, it didn't help. I left the car on on the 2nd ignition position - no-go...
A friend of mine also has an e32. I tried his radio in my car, with the exact same thing happening. I then swopped out the radio module in the boot, but it did not help either.
Can anyone please shed some light on this one? Where do I do and look for the cause?
It's VERY frustrating.....
