Using navigation system as gps only?

I have searched, maybe not hard enough, but can the NAV in the 2014 X3 be used as a GPS only?
For instance, if the wife and I decide to explore the back roads of western wisconsin, can I set it up so that it shows our location at all times on the map?

Everthing I have read in the manual gives instructions on how to get from one place the the next but sometimes I just want to wander, yet know where I am.

It will show you whereever you are, even off roads, on a graphic display and you can even read Lat/Lon/altitude if you want. When off a road it will not show any detail but it will position you correctly relative to whatever roads etc. are around you.

There's a setting where it will give your coordinates.

You can go split screen and have your right (smaller) screen set to Location. It gives you your Lat/Long coordinates as well as what street you're on (if you're on one). I think Location is the setting you want. You can use the main screen to show a map or use it for radio, mode displays, etc.
