The diesel, no options, is 54,770...minus 1730 and 2500. So 50,540. A base is 45,895. $4700. You paying cash? If so I can see saving the $$ for the wifes mini. HOWEVER the base is pretty stripped compared to the 'base diesel'....Have you sat in a base car? Once you start adding "just the basic options you really need', the difference is even less.

I wanted a 4X4 SUV that got better gas mileage that my 1999 Ford Expedition and wanted the mileage to be more than just a little bit better. The X5 35D was my choice to satisfy that desire.

We went with the diesel because of the torque...love the feel when the tires grab the road and shoot the X5d down the road. With the Eco-credit we were able to get more torque for less money. Very happy with the decision...probably wouldn't make the same choice if we were shopping for a sedan, but for a heavy vehicle a diesel power plant makes a lot of sense.

I'm leasing my X5 35d, so I just ordered a set. Got them from Discount Tire for only $964. I plan to remove the RFT's and store them, drive for three years (hopefully) on the Conti's, and then put the RFT's back on when I turn it in. I did this on my 535i and saved myself at least $2000 on tires. Not to mention the car rides better too with the non-RFT's.

You also save on Viagra. The December issue of Cosmopolitan reports that the wives and girlfriends of diesel drivers ar 17% more satisfied than the wives and girlfriends of petrol drivers.
It's all about the torque, baby

The X5 35i Sport Activity starts at $57,700 and with below 4 most common options, it could go beyond $60K. Even I can get OTD around $56K ~ $58K, still over my budget. - Sport Activity Package - Premium Package - Multi-contour Seats - Space Saver Spare while with 35d, it starts as $56,700, if adding above 4 options, and minus around potentially $6230 , it sounds closer to my $50K ~ $52K budget. I will do more research on these two. however, if I decide to go with 35i base... please dont laugh at me or bash me

If the dealers won't offer you $500 over invoice less rebates, try one of the forum sponsors. Dencoop did a deal for one guy at $200 over invoice the other day.
BTW, please spend the extra for the X5 35d with the packages. It will be SO MUCH better than the base. You won't regret it...

This guy is a troll...either knowingly or not. He says he is buying a stripped base model, then prices a diesel with a useless sport package- "Cannot afford....what if wife is mad"
Please... If you don't want a diesel. don't buy one.... but stop with the nonsense.

1) You don't need Nappa Leather. It's nice, but the Dakota Leather is fine. So you can save some money there. 2) You are not factoring in any dealer discount over the rebates. Again, you have been told multiple times by multiple people that this car can be had for $500 over invoice. That being said, it puts you in the $55K ballpark. With all due respect, this car, nicely equipped, is going to cost you somewhere in the $55K region. If you can't afford it, don't buy it, or look at an X3.

I would recommend getting the car nicely cleaned and getting it appraised at CarMax - this will give you a ball park of what you can get for trade-in.
