F10 / F11 (2011 - 2016)
The sixth generation of the BMW 5 Series Sedan (F10) was produced from 2011 - 2016 with LCI updates arriving in 2014. In the US BMW offered a hatchback 5 Series Gran Truismo (F07) and the rest of the world also go a Station Wagon/Touring version F11.

550i performance question

Hey everyone,

So here it is, I want to install a blow off valve on my 550i but from google and here i cant find anything on it. Ive called shops and got nothing. Ive only seen one 550i with blow offs and loved it. But never got a response on where or how he or she had them installed. If anyone can help me with where to get parts and how to install them. I also thinking of getting a CAI, will i have to re-tune the car? some of my other cars this was needed but as this is my first BMW this is all new to me.

Master -

Coming from Corvettes, here is what I have learned ...

CAIs on the N63 - have not seen anything that flows better than stock (documented) for the V8 TT. There are charcoal pre-filters that you can remove ... I never did. Down pipes and exhaust are potential opportunities for documented gains. What I noticed - best bang for the buck hands down was the Burger Stage 1. That tune easily takes your engine over the car's stock handling capabilities.

If I were staying in the 550i or 550ix, I would consider larger sway bars and Dinan springs to complement the additional HP and TQ. I might also delete the mufflers and add the Turner straight pipes with chrome tips to dress the car up and amp up sound just a bit. I would not want drone at low/mid RPMs though.

It's a 550 ... it's supposed to look and sound somewhat classy / executive. That said, these cars are 'sleepers' for certain and with a few mild tweaks you can have a lot of fun!

I'm sure someone has done blown off valves on the N63, but I don't think it'd be easy. There's just not enough piping for it. The turbo outlets are connected to about 8" of curved rubber hose that goes straight into the intercooler. And from there, directly into the throttle body. It's not like a normal car with a long charge pipe coming from the intercooler to the throttle body.
