Hazards Lights Flash in Car Wash

I have a 2012 X3 2.8i and when it goes through the car wash the hazards lights turn on and flash. I am not in the car so I don;t know what the car is doing. I have seen a 5 series and 7 series do this too. The car wash I go to is not one you sit and drive through, but the car goes through alone and you stand behind glass and watch. Car is running when it goes through the wash.

Thanks!
GGF

Your X3 has abandonment issues, and feels physically battered and electrically damaged.

Changing car washes to one that you can ride through is a start, and will correct the abandonment issue .

Changing to a car wash that is brushless and touchless is even better. The softer water-based paints now being used by BMW are going to pick up swirl marks faster than the older paints, so touchless is preferred.

If your X3 still has hazard lights that flash in an escorted and kinder car wash then you need to talk to your dealer. My X3 and me go through a touchless car wash every week, and no lights flash. Something is electrically wrong with your X3.

My X3 locks and unlocks itself constantly when washing it by hand - everytime the water flows over the front doors handles. I need to remember to leave the key away from the car and not in my pocket!

Some car wash operators manually turn on your hazard lights to denote that it is supposed to get one of their "additional" services, like detailing the interior, or washing the mats. Have you asked the car wash operator about this?

the car wash I go to has one level of carwash. $24.00 for full service wash, hand dry and clean the interior. I have seen 2-3 BMWs going through with the hazards lights on. I think it is some BMW thing Maybe it notices the car is moving with no one in the seat. IDK...just curious

I believe they are turning them on. On my 35i the hazards don't turn on in the car wash unless they turn them on same with the 328xi I had.

Cars with key less entries use capacitive coupling and water stream produces almost the same effect of hand touch if you are standing close to the car with keys in your possession.
