Lock not locking

I have a 02 325 ci, the other day I went to lock my car the "old fashioned" way (putting the key into the door" because the battery on my remote is shot. The key spun freely to each 90 degree position. I assume the lock cylinder is out.

I would rather do it myself opposed to taking it to a dealership. Has anyone heard of this happening or know how to fix it? any advice or links help!

Did it half a year ago, cheap fix, took 15 minutes and $30 in lock cylinder parts. There is a thread explaining all the details...look for it
