Awesome! PCD 11/30

Well, I think I'm all set. I have a PCD date for 11/30/2011. While it wasn't one that I'd prefer, I have been able to get the time off work and this week will be booking plane tickets. Just leads me to wonder why the hell it's so expensive to fly to Greenville!!! Can't you guys like move to Atlanta or something where the flights are a third of the cost?

Seriously... can't wait to meet you guys; Gavin Haslett is me

BTW, during car prep can we "forget" to install the front license bracket? I promise I'll do it when I get home if it's in the trunk

Look forward to meeting you! If it is a ED re-delivery, the Euro plate will still be on the front and we won't install the front bracket unless you request us to do so.

For flights, you'll probably have to connect in Atlanta or Charlotte to get to GSP. Don't know what a one way rental would cost, but you could fly to one of those cities and then it would be either a 1.5 to 2 hour drive to Greenville, SC.

See you soon!

Technically, it isn't a redelivery since I never took delivery of the car in Munich (this is my second 135i this year because the first one was totaled a week before pickup; they built me a new one but I drove a loaner 535i). So no, it won't have euro plates on it... and if we can avoid putting the front bracket on that'd be fantastic. Maybe drop a note to the prep guys? I can PM you my production # and VIN if that'll help.

Yeah, I looked into the one-way rental and it was literally a wash. At least for one person. Originally I was headed down that road because my girlfriend was going to come with, but she has to be at work that week... damned accountants and month-end close As a result, it worked out cheaper to just fly... still... annoying

Definitely looking forward to meeting you guys. I think this is gonna be a great trip

To extend your European experience you can fly cheaper fare to Atlanta, take rapid transit MARTA to midtown station and then short taxi to Brookwood Station Amtrack train cheap trip to Greenville. Marriott picks up at the Greenville train station.

I took the train last year and it was pretty cool. Not cool that the train station is so hard to get to!

Sorry to hear about the 1st 135i. That is definetely not common before picking the vehicle up. I've seen customers do quite a bit of damage in Europe after their delivery.

Not a problem regarding the front bracket. Anyone that touches the vehicle here will not install the front bracket unless we tell them to do so. Your vehicle should arrive to us just like all the other "new" vehicles with the front bracket in the trunk. It will stay that way until you arrive .

I wasn't sure if you were traveling by yourself or not. Figured it would probably be a wash if it was for one person.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Yeah, the information I have so far on the first 135i is that it "took a nosedive off the transporter"... a quote from someone at BMW who prefaced that with something resembling "OMG" in German. At least I got a great story to tell out of it

Good to know about the plate bracket... awesome

And yeah, I went ahead and booked my STUPIDLY EXPENSIVE FLIGHT last night LOL. It's cool... I am just constantly frustrated by the dumb hub-and-spoke system that commercial airlines use. As a private pilot I often wonder if I should just buy my own plane and be done with it as I travel a lot for work

You were very lucky. you were offered 11/30 on 11/14, and I got 12/7 on 11/18. 4 day delay cost me 8 day delay on delivery.

I have to warn anyone looking at PCD that you have to be flexible. I planned my entire schedule around this being in late November, and now I'm going to have to move client meetings in Europe to pickup a car (seems like my priorities are wrong).

+1 I'm sorry to hear about your problems getting it scheduled. I was definitely not totally thrilled at first with my PCD date because I only had one vacation day left (this is going to be a 3 day-off trip) and I am backup for our VMware admin at work and he's on vacation that entire week. It turned out OK because I worked out a deal with my boss to work it all out... no worries. I just have to make sure I have my laptop and the ability to dial in if anything goes wrong. It's all good.

Yes, I think especially with high demand lately you need to be very flexible when it comes to PCD. At this rate I think it's only a matter of time before BMW have to open a second PC to take the load. Maybe Arizona for the West Coast?

We don't have any vacation limits, but the only way I will get out of my commitment on the week of my PCD is if I give up Thanksgiving and knock out some international client visits for the next 2 weeks.

Have you thought about your drive back? Google maps goes Knoxville to Nashville and takes you past Ashville along the way. This stretch is a decent drive, even on the interstate, but there are other opportunities, especially in the first part. Nashville to St. Louis starts out somewhat interesting but then you hit the flat lands and will just want to get home.

You could easily make Asheville after delivery and there are things to do there. Biltmore Mansion, for instance. It doesn't sound like you'll have a lot of time but it's nice that even the interstates should be somewhat scenic, at least compared to St. Louis (I am originally from Kansas City).

Actually, I've been giving it a lot of thought. I'm thinking at the moment that I'm going to make my way from Spartanburg to Robbinsville... probably stopping somewhere like Waynesville for dinner. Looking at some cheap places to stay there.

Then... and I am sure you know where this is going... get up early in the morning on the 1st and do Tail of the Dragon in my new toy. If the weather seems decent I might even do the Dragon in both directions, then head over to do a run on the Cherohala Skyway before jumping on the Interstate and heading home. If weather doesn't permit, well I should at least be able to do The Dragon before heading home.

I wish I had even more time to drive more of the roads in the area... as it is though I have to be back at work on the 2nd because both of the guys at work for whom I play backup are out that day. I've been down that area before and loved it so am really looking forward to a re-visit.

Of course, all of this depends a LOT on the weather. I'll still be on stock RFT's until I get my car home (winter wheels and tires are stacked up in the basement already). As a result, I might end up tossing the entire plan and just taking the Interstates home. I'll probably finalize my plan next Monday and go from there.

Oh, and for the record yes; just got my car mount for my CountourGPS camera with which I plan to capture my runs on any fun roads I do. Can't wait
