Real World Hwy MPG

I took my new 335D from NJ to Ohio this weekend. The trip out was 545 miles and we made the journey without stopping. The mpg's were 36.1 according to the onboard computer. The trip home was a slightly longer route and we averaged 37.9mpg. An overall mileage of 37mpg is awesome. The car continues to impress. Just an FYI, the cruise was set at 75 on the highway. TJCIN

Those are great numbers- I can't wait to take mine on a long trip up to Ohio from NC to see what the highway mileage is.

When I did a drive from SJ to southern california recently I got 39.8 mpg on the way down and 36 mpg on the way back with slight more wind and driving a little faster. :-) Our cars rock for road trips.

I found that the onboard computer was a bit optomistic when calculating mileage. If you want the straight poop you'd be wise,IMO,to calculate in the old fashioned way.

Agree. You do need to check the calibration of the OBC MPG before trusting as the real numbers. Our 540iT OBC is right on the money, our 328i runs about 8% optimistic. The D is still too new to tell (haven't fueled it yet).

I have noticed my OBC MPG on my 335d is actually a little pessimistic. I usually get about 1 MPG more using actual math.

My OBC matches the actual (miles divided by gallons) - I got 42 MPG driving from LA to San Diego - all freeway.
Using 18" square wheels seemed to help boost about 4 MPG compared to my 18" staggered set.

I now have seen two years of data driving here in South Florida.

There is a clear trend that my summertime MPG is around 28-29 and my wintertime is 30-31 mpg.

I must attribute this to the use or non-use of the A/C on this car. There is no other rational explanation. Traffic is actually lighter during summer months as kids are mostly out of school, so slightly less traffic, yet my MPG is lower.

Anybody else care to ponder this?
