Interesting that you pointed that out, as I recall most of hybrids on the market use Nickel-metal-hydride battery pack (ex. Lexus/Toyota, Infiniti, even Panamera S Hybrid) which is lower in cost but capacity/weigh and discharge current can't be match with the Lithium-ion battery pack used in BMW ActiveHybrid. Enable to achieve 0-60 of 4.7 sec on AH7 with assistance of electrical motor, high discharge current of Lithium-ion battery is a must. Plus, better weight to capacity of Li-Ion battery pack offer more flexibly on placement of battery pack in support of better driving dynamic setup.

As for performance, with proper setup low cost NiMH can enable manufacture to use larger battery pack with result of better performance on fuel efficiency. However, for driving/acceleration performance ideally Li-Ion would be a better choice. BMW claim AH7 is the fastest "street legal" which might be little misleading since most of people think "top speed", I think they should market it as "Quickest" (0-60 4.7sec) "Street legal" full size luxury sedan. I notice the Porsche 918 will use the Li-ion pack this time, finally they can try to catch up with BMW and rest of others (ex. Tesla, Fisker).

No hybrid is perfect - it's a compromise. Even my BMW - it won't run on battery power purely.

I have a question for ya. I was able to get a dealer allocation for an AH7 toward the end of December. Unfortunately my car is still not shipped yet so I'm thinking it will get here sometimes in early April. Would I still qualify for all the December discounts when I sign the paper work in April? I read something about the 90 day price lock for west coast deliveries. But my car won't arrive till more than 100 days after placing the order.

If this was the case I missed out, was under the impression delivery had to take place by end of year.

Price lock I think is done 90 days from Jan 3rd which was the final day to get those rates. I would sign the docs even if the car isn't there. Right Greg?

I didn't know you can sign the docs early on non ED cars.

Hey jdefg2000,

When did you order your car? I wonder if it's been typical for people on the west coast to have to wait over 100 days to get their active hybrid cars from order to delivery.

@ 2012AH7............ for ED you would have to sign by April 3rd.. but on ED they can do a delivery 3 week later.. on US the pickup date (RDR) has to match the sales date.. so you better talk to your CA.

Hi Greg,

Unfortunately I'm not doing European Delivery. My CA told me the car should arrive at the dealer sometimes between 1st and 2nd week of April. I was told I should still get all the discounts and rates from when I order the car in mid. December even if the car arrives after April 3. Is this correct? I want to make sure they honor the deal. It will be a nightmare if I don't get the car after waiting for it for over 3 months!

2012ah7....After April 3 the dealership cant honor those discounts, because bmw wont. 90 days is locked from Jan3. Although the 7500 Eco Credit is still around, and that's the big one...but still the another 6k in discounts is lost after the April 3 window. I guess depending on what price above invoice-msrp you agreed upon would be the only other negotiating issue maybe to offset the loss of the discounts from bmw. Good luck!

You have one option have your CA's manager talk to BMW FS and see if they can get an exception.

My CA said I've been granted an extension. Although there is a good chance I can take delivery by 4/3 if everything goes smoothly.

ok is your extension OFFICIAL..........? Your CA will need to get an approval from the BMW market manager and BMW FS market rep..... don't just take CA's word.... we have a manager who ordered a 750ih and his car is in same situation as yours..... and he doesn't have an exception/extension yet. This is a very rare situation, so be sure you have correct info.

I was told the proper channels has been contacted and it was approved. Should I get it in writing? Is there some kind of offical paper work?

if dealership is confident they got it done great... we still haven't gotten approval, so I'm just a little suspect..... see what kind of written committment you can get.....

Hey guys, I apologize but I am bit confused. I thought this deal was over, but it looks like it can be signed prior to April 3rd? So I can get the $644/36 month deal? Any discount if I pay the whole lease up front?

If it can still be done then I am going to pull the trigger this week even if the delivery is near the end of the year. I have a trip to Munich planned for September anyway

Astro, this deal is long gone. There is a bit of wiggle room with any dealer who may have one sitting on his lot(not much chance though). As there are some incentives for existing inventory, but for the most part the extreme nature of this deal has been exhausted. The signing part people are talking about is the signing of the Purchase and then the final deal being done. These are people that ordered their cars by Jan 3 and then signed final paperwork and received delivery of said car by April 3.

I have found myself a new CA in Greg Poland at Pacific BMW. My company ordered two of the 750iAHs for ED in Jan 2011 and Greg was the reason we were able to get this done.

I originally returnted to purchase the 750iAH from the dealership I bought my last 4 BMWs RALF SCHOMP and they basically told me to go fly a kite the deal I was trying to put together was a pipe dream. Of course they were clearly ignorant. After this less than impressive treatment I reached out to Greg Poland. He was quick to respond and was able to work two amazing leases for ED on our 750iAHs
