Base Pricing Announced for 2012 BMW 328i/335i 3 Series F30!

EDIT 11/23/11 - Complete 2012 BMW F30 335i and 328i pricing now available

We just got word that BMW has announced base pricing of the 328i and 335i at the LA Auto Show.

The 328i starts off at an MSRP of $35,775 which probably translates to an invoice of around $32,900.

The 335i starts off at an MSRP of $43,275 which probably translates to an invoice of around $39,800.

Basically there is around a 3.4% increase in base pricing from the outgoing E90 models.

As we announced back in October, the F30 will be making its public debut at the Detroit Auto Show opening to the public on January 14th.

Next up is full ordering guides and package pricing. Who is ready to place an order?

There should be considerably more standard content too so (if true) the price increase seems pretty reasonable to me.

Does this include destination charge???
$34,900 + 875 = $35,775
No price increase to me. Am I missing something?

Edmunds is reporting the new base to be $35,775 with no options.

http://blogs.insideline.com/straight...rom-35775.html

Glad to see pricing didn't increase any more.

Can't wait to see how much Sport model and other options might cost.

Typically the MSRP price does not include the $875 destination fee so you should add that on to the price.

I do agree with jwac that the added standard features including bluetooth, usb/ipod, larger standard wheels, 6.5" color display with iDrive, etc. probably bring the price down under what the E9X cost to get the equivalent. For the 328i, the ipod/usb and bluetooth options alone would have been $1,150.

We will know more once the full pricing gets released and we see what options are priced at.

Wow, the 2012 335i base will be $7,500 more than the 328i.

I know the 335 has a few more standard options over the 328 but is a fairly high premium for that amount of hp increase.

The 2011 price difference may be similar but I was hoping the 2012 price would be less on the 335.

Agreed. I think BMW is going to have a tough time selling 335i models.

^^ No they won't , blowhards who always say that the 328 is garbage won't condescend themselves to buy a 328.

Not bad, and it looks really nice. I like it more and more. I'm looking to upgrade next time around though.

Not to me! I already have my order in for a 335!

It seems that people keep forgetting the other 'options' that come wiht the 335 but are actual extra cost options on the 328... Xenon Headlights with High-Beam assist, Wood Trim, Moonroof, Power Front Seats with Lumbar Support and Anti-theft Alarm System

To me, the Xenons and Sunroof is worth about $2k. That still puts the 335i $5k higher than the 328i.

The power seats help the price too but once I get my seat set, I don't really need the electric upgrade.

a) I think the price spread is part of a deliberate strategy, not to make more money necessarily (although that is always part of any strategy), but to 'send' more buyers to the 328 so it looks good to CAFE. (This assumes total fleet sales are counted, and not just each model having a weight of "1"). The whole CAFE compliance thing is extremely critical nowadays and a car maker will cannibalize itself in some areas to make up for it in others.

b) I have been looking at an E93 and the equalized difference between 28 and 35 is about $4500. Equalized meaning price-adjusted for standard options, of course. This spread may look larger but $4500 sounds about right (7500-(xenon+roof+seats+wood+alarm) ~=$4500)

c) Base price is only the beginning of the BMW story of course. As a wag remarked, if you want air in your BMW's tires, you have to pay extra for it. Accordingly, a halfway desirable 328 is likely to approach $40k.

Even though the Canadian dollar is at par with the U.S. buck, the base 328i goes for $41,500 in Canada plus $1,995 for dealer prep!

Price spread is greater because the 328i is now a four cylinder car.

That has nothing to do with anything concerning the price.

Indeed. I recall reading somewhere about the Z4, which also experienced the I6> T4 change, that the price of the car went up despite virtually no other changes, and one reason being that the engine actually costs a bit more to produce. Dunno if that's marketing hype or reality but not unbelievable due to the turbos.

The Z4 28i's price increased due to a bunch of added standard equipment - floor mats, xenons, anti-theft, iPod/USB and Bluetooth. It wasn't due to the new engine.

Besides, no car is priced based on a cost-plus pricing model. Meaning that just because the engine might cost $100 more to produce doesn't mean BMW will increase the MSRP by $100. The pricing is based on the market competition and what the car offers by comparison, along with BMW's desired sales volume and profit. It's all pretty arbitrary and only partly related to what the car actually costs to build.

They are lagging way behind Audi if they pull this no sirius, no xenons, no 19" wheels, no sport package, no leather, no heated seats, no cargo nets, no bluetooth, no navi crap. Cause the S4 does all of this for $46k. And it has a real differential instead of 330 hp 1 wheel drive.

I test drove an S4 about a month ago. It was a nice car, but it's no BMW. Audi may have some options, but it damn sure doesn't drive as well as the Bimmer.

Hmm... I dunno about that. The S4 is a pretty fantastic car. I'd take it over my wife's prior 335 sedan and in some ways, I like driving the S4 almost as much as my M3. Yes, overall the M3 is still a better driving experience, but the supercharged S4 engine is awesome.
