Adaptive drive part of 2012 x5d sport package?

Figured it was worth starting a new thread on this one. For those of us who have been wondering why adaptive drive keeps showing up as part of the sport package on our tracking page - more fuel for the fire. I just built my car using the newly deployed 2012 build and price configurator on the bmwusa web site. Adaptive drive does show up in the sport package. Also, if you select the AD option separately, it de-selects the sport package. This is either a BIG mistake made by some soon to be unemployed web programmer, or a very nice early Christmas present for those of us who ordered our d with sport.

Any ideas?

I have a copy of the build sheet for my car off of DealerSpeed

It uses Sport Package as the header for all the options in ZAP and actually puts "ZAP" below by itself....

Options..............300 Sport Package
...................................225 Sport Suspension delete
...................................255 Sports leather steering wheel
...................................2LE*20"Light alloy wheels style 21....
...................................481 Sport seats
...................................760 Shadowline exterior trim
...................................775 Anthracite headliner
.........................ZAP Sport Activity Package
.........................ZCW Cold Weather Package
....................................248 Heated Steering Wheel
....................................646 Ski bag
....................................ect ect ect...
.
does this mean anything... I doubt it..a bit odd but most likely meaningless.
it also has a symbol in the 2LE( a cross) (I substituted an asteric) that says " *Alternate Option "

It doesn't list Adaptive Drive anywhere... except on the website... and NOT as a check box but as an included option within ZAP... I expect someone is in a heap of trouble if they put that there by mistake..

If you move the cursor over the listing for Sport Activity Package in the Summary at the end of the process... Adaptive drive is NOT listed within the included items.. so my guess is programer ERROR....

Yup and if you move the cursor over Adaptive drive bullet it shows the $3500 price tag. Someone clearly forgot to add the checkbox : )

Yeah, I just talked to customer service, and they played dumb about the online configurator. Did confirm that AD is NOT included in any packages. Still a $3500 option, so no special surprise in my stocking! Oh well, it was fun for a while....

They also don't have the brushed aluminum trim option for the interior when you select Sport Package, which I think should be the case - at least that's what I was offered by the dealer.

I certainly hope they do better QA on our cars than on their web config. apps. before they release them...

...lets just say I order the Sport Pkg. on my 2012 Build just so I could get the Adaptive Drive

If I look at my build as per BMW - take a look at my production number and build. It Clearly says *Adaptive Drive as part of the Sport Pkg.

...If I look at the BMWUSA Configurator and again it clearly states *Adaptive Drive is part of the Sport Pkg.

-Now, lets just say my car for some reason does not come with Adaptive Drive, don't you think BMW would then need to compensate me for their error, as this was the only reason I got the Sport Pkg

Maybe we can get a bunch of us to complain and they will do something about it...Just saying

In the same section it says sports seat and multi-contour seats and you can't have both.

Read Carefully: Sport Seats are standard, The Comfort Seats ar an extra cost option that must be checked off. The reason you see it as part of my build is because I ordered it as a separate option. If you look at someone's build snapshot that did not order the comfort seats, they will not be there.

Are you people nuts?

Do you think a website coding error - on a non-binding marketing and sales tool- will result in your getting $3500 (or $4400) worth of features you are not paying for?!!?

The only thing that matters is the dealerspeed.net order, and if AD and Comfort seats are NOT separate line items (2VA and 456, respectively) you will not have them. As a matter of fact, it isn't YOUR car until you take delivery from the dealer- it is the DEALERS car up until that point in time. Your name on the order is a courtesy, but confers no legal rights.

Ard - I think you need to chill. No one is nuts... However, the website is a SALES and marketing tool, and therefore if someone is making ordering choices based off that, I think there is a legitimate point to me made here. Do I expect BMW to give everyone that ordered a 2012 X5 35d an additional $3500 off, no - but for those that expected their car to come with Adaptive Drive, and are then disappointed, clearly something has to be done.

1) BMW needs to fix the website
2) BMW needs to contact all those with pending orders informing them that Adaptive Drive is not included, and they have a window of time to cancel their order (for no penalty) or it will be assumed they are OK with not having adaptive drive.

BTW, have you actually confirmed that Adaptive Drive is not included? As far as I can tell, no one has actually taken delivery to confirm this one way or the other.

I do NOT think it is included. I dont want it. I believe it is a programming error. I think it is hilarious that "ARD" is apoplectic that there might be a 1 in 1,000,000 chance that it might be...hahaha

You are over-estimating the chance it 'might' be included.

I am incredulous that people keep reposting this issue- complete with screen shots- with the fervent hope that maybe this glitch will turn into some benefit for them.

I've actually not consider the 'what if' question, as it has no impact on me at all...

I am amused with this thread and the time folks are spending to figure out whether this is a coding mistake or a genuine case when Christmas did come in before Halloween!

Now for those "very few" that wanted AD, talked to the sales rep and did special order it (like you are supposed to, see attached) . . . BMW will most likely fast track another car (may be one destined for a dealer lot, but not build out completely) and get it to the customer who genuinely wanted AD.

For the remaining "vast majority", who were looking for a free lunch . . . BMW will point you to the website (see attached) and ask you if you have had this discussion with your sales rep!

If I were a bookie, your odds of getting a "free" AD is about the same as cold fusion happening on a mass scale on planet Earth in the next decade!

You can't order a car from this web site so it means nothing. It is just a tool. And they have a disclaimer for errors and omission and right to make changes at any time.

It shows as an included bullet, not a checkbox option. If it were an option, it would be a check box and the amount would be displayed to the right of it - like on any other feature that is extra. I just got off the phone with BMW Customer service and am waiting for a call back from the manager. It could not be more clear on the website that this should be included. It is a gross error - and happens to be an error on a feature that significantly improves the performance of the car and the reason I chose SPORT. I am asking for them to take the car back and provide me with a new one. Will update you on how they deal with this.
Bummer.

You actually thought the $2200 sport package included the $3500 AD option?

Very best case BMW takes it back and you can spend the extra $3500.

Remember, your contract is based on the car and the window sticker and NOT on a website...might I also point out that YOU purchased the car from THE DEALER and not from BMW.

I never said you weren't smart.

I am simply pointing out you are probably clueless about the legal aspects of how a car purchase works.

You seen to think you brought it from BMW. In actual fact, BMW sold it to their dealer and that dealer sold it to you.

Rant about the website all you want...from the beginning we have all stated it was a mistake- even those that were thinking 'maybe it is a mistake and I'll get it for free'....

I will repeat- you purchased the car from a BMW dealer and not from BMWs website.

WOW! So glad I saw this thread as I am finalizing an X5D order and I also thought it was included based on website. Based on all previous cars ordered and purchased, I basically built from website and then checked that the packages I selected (not individual componets of the package) were on the order. I never would have thought that the packages would be different.

Kind Sir, I must most regretfully tell you you are mistaken. You absolutely CAN get these options without paying for them, though maybe not in the precise way you think.

My uncle in Nigeria can order this car for you. Due to the trouble with our roads, Adaptive Drive is a no cost option in Nigeria. And he has discovered a way to build an X5 for delivery to America, using the same no cost secret option code.

He requires a money order or cashier's check for $1,000 in order to process your order with the FREE Adaptive Drive.

If desired, he can also have the car built with non-run-flat tires, piano black wood trim, the factory installed trailer hitch, and other features that are standard through BMW Nigeria, but which cost you more in the USA. His cost to add each of these FREE options is $500.

He will also accept a wire transfer of funds. Please PM me with your desired build specifications, and I can provide you with directions for transferring the funds.

Thank you for this opportunity to be of service, and have a most excellent day!
