From an E46 3-series, yes, an almost perfect fit. From an E9x 3-series, maybe, but the offset is generally 15mm or so too low, but may be OK with a 205/50-17 tyre.

The 16" wheels from the 3 series are 7" wide and have a 38mm offset. The snow tires fitted on the wheels are 205/55/16. Does this help determine if they will fit my 128i?

They should be fine at the back, a 255/40-17 tyre on an 8.5" wheel with 52mm offset fits, putting the outside of the tyre at about 76mm from the hub, compared with 65mm for the wheel and tyre you are looking at, giving you 9mm more clearance, depending on the tyre.

For the front, a 225/45-17 tyre on a 7.5" wheel with 49mm offset fits (I am actually running 225/45-17 winter tyres on a 44mm offset rim without rubbing), putting the outside of the tyre at about 64mm from the hub, compared with 65mm for the wheel and tyre you are looking at, giving you 1mm less clearance, so it is likely it will work without rubbing, depending on the tyre.

I use 16" wheels from a BMW Z3 on my 128i, the offsets are the same as most e46 wheels. They should work just fine.

And my winter tires are 16" 205's, and they clear the brakes okay. You should be good provided your offset is okay.

really? he just wants to know if the 16 inch wheel will rub against his brake caliper.

perhaps my incorrect use of the word breaks instead of brakes caused the question.

I am debating to purchase some 18" wheels from a Z3 coupe. They are 18x8 with 35 offset and 18x9 with a 38 offset. 225/40 front and 255/40 rear. Does anybody have an idea if this would fit a 135i or 128i.

The rears probably will rub on the fenders quite a bit, the fronts may rub.
