Question After Market Warranty?

I picked up my '07 650i convert yesterday with 37k miles on it. (I also have a 2012 528i),

Any recommendation about after market warranty companies? I have quotes from Fidelity and Interstate.

Interstate seems to be about $3,200 for 4 years and 60K from the dealer I got it from. They are a used car dealer that only sells used BMW, Benz, Astin Martin, Lambo, Bentley, Ferrari etc.

My local BMW dealer has a policy for $3,600 from Fidelity for 3 years but they will service the car under it.

Both policy's have a $200-$250 deductible.

Any input or experience would be appreciated.

Make sure and compare the exclusion lists, thats where most people get the biggest surprise when they exercise the warranty.

Zurich is another company that some have gotten quotes from. I am not using any of them so have no recommendation on how well they take care of you.

I purchased one from here in July,
http://www.extended-vehicle-warranty.com/
they even covered my HUD when it went out 2 months later, after some persuasion.
Cost for the warranty was right at 3K with a $0 deductible.
Can't remember my sales rep info, but can look it up if you need it and I can get the
referral fee

dapirate,
Thanks for the info.
I'll check Mercury also. Do you know if BMW dealers will work with them?

The warranty you buy from Autopom is a Mercury warranty I'm not sure if you can buy directly from Mercury and I only go to the BMW dealer, but you can go to just about anywhere.

I was considering getting an aftermarket Warranty from Zurich.. I can purchase it at anytime.. But for right now.. I am going to put that $5k aside and fix my car with that fund.. And from here on out I will be leasing my cars.. Used car upkeep is just too much of a headache these days...

I followed up on dapirate's recommendation. After speaking to Mike Jones at auto-POM I'm going to go that route.

My car is an '07 and has 37k miles and they can extend to 100K and 6 years from the date of purchasing the warranty. Far better deal than the dealers offered me. Seems like a strong policy and company. Hopefully I won't need to test them out.

I'm going with the Platinum policy. Here's a link to the contract FYI.

I'm glad he was able to help you out, I know I called about 5 different places and they had the best price. I have had to use mine about 3 times for a few small things, the largest being the HUD.

I have no complaints

I just finished the sign up. Easy and I included the $0 deductible and Nav. coverage options. Still way less than worse coverage from the dealer.
They will finance for 10 months for free. Not a bad deal at all.

How much did they charge you? I got a really good quote from them (online) and may go that route when my warranty runs out. I have the 2007 also. The dealer wanted something like 14k for a warranty..... I laughed!

I believe they want you to buy it within 21 days of purchase but I'm not certain.
Eligibility is based on mileage, age, etc. (07 with 37K for nine) but the price was amazing. I got the platinum for 6 years or up to 100k miles.
You choose your deductible - $100, $50, or zero. and I added the Nav option for $200. Total was $2,780. You can pay monthly for up to 18 months at no interest.

Thanks for the Info , do you know if it pro-rates in case someone decides to cancel the policy ? Also did you have to perform a vehicle inspection ?
Thanks

I can't tell you about the Pro-Rate, but I did not have to do any inspection in the car.

Mercury VS BMW Warranty?

Thanks for the timely information guys. Last week I bought a 2008 650 Vert w 44k on it(well cared for and super hot). The factory warranty expires in April and I do not want to wait to the last moment to see what my choices are. I went to Rallye BMW in NY and was quoted 4k for the premium(plus tax) for an additional 2 years to make it 6 years total. I was also quoted $2500 for the main package but I doubt I'll do that. I had a 2001 X5 4.4 CPO bought in 2002 and after the warranty got hit for around 7k in bills so I unloaded it, that's why I am serious about getting a warranty for this car. Will BMW honor the Mercury warranty?
Also ROSENG said"Correction. they said 6 years on the phone but it's 60 months, 5 not 6 years.?"
If that's the case the BMW warranty is the better deal b/c it has an extra year. Thanks for any help you can provide.

When I went to the dealer and asked about extended warranties they sell, the service dept recommended one company and the sales dept recommended a different one. I don't think it really matters as to the dealer. Almost all car repairs are done to a booked rate for time and cost. As long as the warranty company pays the established rate your fine.

Mercury says "Any licensed repair facility in the US or Canada" and I took that to mean dealers too and they said yes. Mercury was the only "brand name" that I found and that was a big part of the decision to go with them. The other was the recommendation from dapirate.

Good luck.

Im just curious... says your in CA as well. I just want to know how you went about getting this warranty. I know in CA it is impossible to get an aftermarket warranty unless through a dealer. I do know you can get insurance that acts like a warranty. Is this what you got? Let me know. I am seriously considering a used BMW but need to know if I should buy certified or get one of these aftermarket warranties.

CABMW, I don't know why you think it's impossible to get an aftermarket warranty except through a dealer in CA. That's not correct. I purchased mine directly from the warranty company. It's not an insurance policy it's a warranty that is offered and underwritten by an insurance company. Look the links from my earlier posts. All of the info is there. I think someone is feeding you some bad information.

Yup, the warranty we both purchased was auto POM (backed by Mercury Insurance) the company is actually located in the OC, CA. FYI : for my 2004 645Ci, 61k, I purchased a 48 month, 48,000 mile extended warranty for about $2450 + $200 for 0 deductible (standard is $100 deductible) + $200 for electronics coverage. So everything with taxed was right around $3000 for their platinum protection.

They do not require a pre-purchase inspection, but the warranty company did say make sure you purchase within 21 days of the purchase of the car (i think the price of the warranty goes up if after this period). I fixed everything that had to be fixed ($2000 worth of stuff), in the contract it does state that does not cover previous issues. So this warranty should cover anything else under the warranty.

As with all after-market warranty plans, always read the fine print. I am no professional and I did read the plan and am satisfied with their coverage. But anyone else that is more knowledgeable than me read it and post their thoughts on it.

So I did some research on the website of both your providers and found this: "If you purchase your California extended car warranty from a third party like autoPOM, you are actually purchasing an insurance policy that is regulated by the state Department of Insurance." So it sounds like what I had heard was true. There is a whole page dedicated to CA aftermarket warranties. Here is the link. Not trying to stir up controversy, just trying to clarify. http://www.extended-vehicle-warranty...-warranty.html
