Just Ordered

Status 112

Just got back from the dealer. Went there with the intentions of ordering
328i
sportline
mineral grey
dakota red leather
Premium Sound
Manual

Well, things went down a little different. lol First I wanted to test a E90 328i manual and get a feel for the clutch, see how the manual felt, reconfirm my decision to go with my first manual. Well, the dealer tells me the only manual e90 is at the other showroom.

So i moved onto plan b. See if they have a Z4 28i, basically it has the same engine N20, sports transmission ZF8speed, it has variable suspension, and it weighs nearly the same. Turns out they have one and i take it for a drive. During the test drive i mostly focussed on the transmission to how responsive it was, how fast it shifted etc... GOD DAMN!!!! That transmission is no joke. I was shocked with how fast it upshift. Felt like i was in a formula 1 car. Easily twice as fast as the ****s in my 335i ZF6 auto. I was so impressed with the sports auto, i decided to change from manual to auto. It was really hard and i am still not 100% sure if i will change my mind, but i was just really surprised.

Now for the N20. Wow, tons of torque down low, i was in sport+ taking a trun onto the highway and just hit the throttle in 2nd, pinned me back in my seat. my current 328 is pretty wimpy to say the least from a 2nd gear pull in low rpm, but the N20 was very responsive and the power is there. Maybe because it was the little Z4, but the engine felt great. Cant imagine this thing with a tune. Didnt even notice the variable suspension in the z4, decided not to get it, not getting the 300 steering either.

So then the dealer finds a 328manual, clutch was super smooth, butter smooth. But i was already hooked with feeling like lewis hamilton behind the wheel

So, we sit down to order the car, gorgeous 335d, sport, space grey loaded, just sitting there. Cant even imagine the torque on that thing. Price is 57K...i tell the dealer to take 10K off, they dont so we move on to ordering lol...Decided on going with black dakota instead of red, cant go wrong with black. Then we started talking about 335 e90, but they had no 335 sport no nav to drive. Oh well.

Get this ****, while ordering the car dealer tells me, in order to get the black leather seats i need to get the fold down seats for $475... Wtf is that? I bitched and he said he would "take care of it", but is anyone else encountering this bs? Guys who are getting cold package already get fold down seats.
Ended up getting
328i
Mineral Grey
Black dakota
sportline
sport auto
premium sounds
folding seats

came out to $42,220

I hear you, but i was able to drive the ZF8speed sport auto, and was just blown away. I was fighting with the sales guy at first over wanting a manual lol, but after driving the Z4, i was really impressed. So much faster than the ZF in my 335. I thought the manual was butter smooth, but i couldnt get over how fast the auto shifted.

lol, just saw that pic.lmfao...honestly i was fighting the dealer lol, it wasnt until i was able to drive the exact same transmission with the n20 that made me decide.

The torque in the 335d is overrated. The car weighs almost 500 lbs more, and still has the oil burner vibration.

Glad to know the new 8spd tranny is a big improvement. Congrats!

I disagree. I was planning on getting a 328i 6MT until I drove it and the 335d back-to-back. No "oil burner vibration" here and the torque curb stomps anything you'll get in the 328i. It may be a bit heavier but the power to weight ratio is still saweeeet! The only thing the d lacks is a third pedal.

OP congrats on ordering your new F30. Looking forward to see pics when you get it.

Just wanted to clarify - did you forget to list the premium package too or is the price indicated with taxes also? I tried pricing your combination (without premium package) and it comes to above msrp.
How much over invoice / below msrp was it?
Thanks!

If I lust over more torque, I will pick a 335i over 335d still. I drove a 335d again lately, after reading about all the deals, revving the diesel to 5000 it sounded like the Lexus RX350 crossover I just drove 20 minutes earlier.

I might wait for the 2012/2013 328i m-sport.

What's surprising is this is even an option on a modern car. Does anyone have a plausible reason for not having split fold down rear seats these days?

As the car ages it will rattle. My E90 started making noise in that area when it was 2 years old, but you kind of need it as it really increases the utility factor.

So i just logged into the bmwusa site to check on my car and it went from the "order documented" to "production begins"...also is showing my car color choices with options, tho it is also showing sportline with m suspension(which i did not order). From this point does anyone know how long till they actually being assembling the car?

Awesome! Glad to see that production is moving along

The online site is less than stellar for accuracy but if it says it is in production that should mean that its being built. The worst part has got to be once it is actually built and you know it is just waiting for a boat to the US....and the fact that BMW has really pushed that February 11, 2012 date as the first cars going on sale.

Good stuff though

In case you have not tried it yet...you can also call (800) 831 - 1117 to get a more accurate status check.

Simply say "Vehicle Production Status" at the prompt...then say your production number or the last seven digits of your VIN

Follow the rest of the prompts and it should give you a more up to date status for your car.

Sorry to keep the hijacked 335d embedded thread alive, but I just had a loaner 335d and expected to be amazed by the low-end grunt. Although it was pretty fun to drive, it had major turbo lag and felt slower and less torquey than my 335xi. The engine was definitely a lot coarser at cruising speed - that would really get on my nerves on a road trip.
