Exclamation 2nd gear randomly pops out after it's engaged...loudly! Z3

So i've only had the car for about 3 months but this has happened a handful of times. I'll shift from 1st to 2nd and with a load bang, the shifter throws itself back into neutral! It's a startling experience, makes you feel like the transmission just exploded, lol. But then I'll firmly shift back into 2nd and all is good.

Afterwards I always think maybe I didn't shift it fully seated into 2nd gear. But I've never had this problem on any other car. I read this post...

http://forum.roadfly.com/threads/756...ing-Out-of-2nd

...and it perfectly describes the experience. This is 2000 M Roadster 5 speed with about 110,000 miles. I have not taken it to the dealer. I was thinking of changing the manual transmission oil and see if that helps.

You might also consider.....

Looking at the transmission mounts and the shift linkage. BMWs have a problem with transmission movement which can cause missed shift. There are also parts in the shift linkage that were out.
