Stomp Test Help?
Hey Guys, I have a May 1995 M3 and I've tried the stomp test a few times but nothing seems to happen. The "check" light came on last week, so I did a bit of reading to haven't come across anything specific for my model.
Also can somebody clarify if the May 1995 M3 was 286 HP or 295 HP, when looking for info I found an article that says the 1995 M3 is 295HP but that was the 1st time I'd read of the extra horses...giddee up. Any info would be appreciated?

Since you are in Oz, you have the S50b30. 286Hp. (at the crank, about 230-240 rwhp)
Are you sure you are doing the stomp correctly? I'm not even sure that tthe stocp test even works on the Euro engine managment system. But.. Turn key to on, then immediately Fully press gas pedal to the floor 5 times withing 5 seconds.' Make sure that the pedal goes all the way to the floor, no carpet or mat blocking any travel? Check that the throttle linkage is letting the tb's fully open. (adjusted properly...

Then after the first code is displayed, punch the pedal 5 more times in 5 seconds revealing a new code until you get to 1000.
Then holding the pedal down for 10 seconds will clear the codes.

No, there is no need to do any more stomping. it will cycle through all the stored codes by itself. Then repete the cycle.

I have yet to see that happen on either of my e36's, but I guess I could be wrong...

On the OBD1 e36's you can "stomp" on the pedal 5 times in 5 seconds after turning the key on read the stored check engine light codes.

I've tried 2 different occasions(3 or 4 times each), stomped 5 times quickly as soon as the dash lights come on, nothing seems to happen.
How would I know if it's OBD1 or 2 that I have? Might orange light just says "engine" not engine check or anything and I looked at numerous YouTube vids and no other dash has just the "engine". |

Try to contact Mr Blond on Bimmerforums. I think he lives in Sydney, and had a 95... (not that Sydney is close to you or anything. I mean Oz is a VERY big country. I was there in 2010...)

Thanks! Your response came handy a couple of days ago, got a CEL, car felt sluggish on the lower end, did the stomps and got 1221 (O2 sensor bad) installed a new one and problem fixed! Light went away about 5 minutes after driving.

Where are the codes displayed after performing the test? Do I need a legit BMW OBDI code reader?

No, the actual check engine light blinks and pauses four times, count the blinks in between and that's your code. I think YouTube has some videos.
