Ugh. This thread is making me feel like a chump.

Purchased two days ago:

2011 335i PE Sport Premium Step Black Sapp/Black Dakota. 8 miles on the odo.

Sticker 51,200
Out 48,500 (Mission + Loyalty -- so I paid MSRP!)

Got 26,100 for my 2010 328xi 24,000mi Premium Nav and a banged up bumper and quarter panel.

I now look forward to hearing from the chorus of people who got 7,000 off sticker.

500 over invoice on 2012 x5 then minus all the incentives.

You were raped. Sorry mi amigo. Fair price would have been invoice minus incentives plus $250-$500. I got my 2012 550i xDrive M Sport for invoice (plus MACO and training fee) minus incentives plus $750. And base BMWFS money factor minus the loyalty MF reduction and no mark up on $725 acquisition fee.

Dealer got MSRP on one item which is aftermarket anyway: the Dinan Stage 2 tune.

That's what I was aiming for but I suppose I got swept up and didn't do the calculations correctly. Honestly, I was quite casual about the negotiations because by now I expect BMW dealers to be respectable and simply give me the proper price when they see I'm an ordinary, nice guy who will buy. At least, that's the kind of treatment I've received from BMW of Flemington back home in NJ. Some threads on this board suggest that California is simply a different place for car buying. I'm now inclined to agree, and will probably never purchase another car in California. $800 to ship covered from New Jersey and 6% tax versus 9.x%. Easy decision. And certainly won't go back to BMW of Mountain View.

M3 via ED for me. Best choice IMHO.

That's what I ultimately decided to do. Couldn't find what I wanted on a dealer's lot anyway.

Multiple CA based board sponsors who will give your a fair deal. You just had to ask here and do your due diligence. Anyways there's always a next time. Fyi, I am in NJ and am buying from a CA dealer.

Well said. Few people can remember the exact price/terms of their deal a short time after the purchase. What they are aware of, is whether or not it puts that "silly-ass grin" on their face whenever they drive it, or if they get that warm fuzzy feeling when they simply gaze at their BMW...

Unless you get a super great deal from a great CA that provides a top notch experience.

I can tell you my exact deal anytime because I bring it up to anyone that would listen as soon as we start talking about cars.

On the other hand, if you a crappy deal I don't think anyone remembers

One questions I ask a new customer is when assessing their needs is, "Do you remember what kind of deal you got, or what
you paid for the last car?"


Most respondents cannot; that's how they end up with me.


I do agree that exceptional experience are memorable.


After all, that's how Bimmerfest got started...

of car buyers at large, not necessarily the enthusiasts/fanatics that we have on this site...

Bought a 6 month old used 2011 535i Dark Graphite Metallic with under 2K miles for 48K from a dealer in So Cal. Hopefully I got a good deal.

A special one year lease, probably one of the best deals ever -- TWICE! (see attached).

No Bank Fee, no security deposit, .00125 LMF back in 2000 was unheard of. 85% residual / 15k mi. $40,500 MSRP for only $276/month with only $816.78 total to start! And, this was the first year for E46 coupes. They were hot as Hell in 2000... I took a digital photo of the deal screen on my computer I was so proud of my deal...

At the end of the first year, with only 4,000 miles on the odometer (I live one mile from the dealership), I was able to purchase it from BMWFS for exactly $7,730.00 less than the residual at only $28,950. The second transaction was arguably the best deal ever (I'm not bragging, but it's true). A one year old garaged E46 Coupe (original MSRP $40,510) with 4k miles for $28,950. Because I was the General Sales Manager of the BMW dealership, I had the Detail Dept. wax/polish it every weekend...



I wish I'd never sold it.. When I retired from the car business in 2003 I sold it and bought a V-8 Toyota Tundra. One of the biggest
mistakes of my life... I lasted one year in the Tundra which I bought to tow my dirt bikes and boat, and then bought my current '99 M3
which remains my favorite BMW ever.

Jon, I can see how you remember the details to the penny if you kept screen shots of all of your transactions!

That was a GREAT deal and buyout back in 2000. We need them to bring that deal back for the 2012 F30....

That would be nice, but it cannot happen. BMW would go bankrupt doing 85% residuals on a high volume car like the F30.
