BMW M3 (model year changes?)

New member on this board. Currently shopping Certified BMW M3's in the NJ/PA/DE area. I see a ton of 2008 M3s available in the area, but would like to know if there are any differences between each model year? I've tried searching and have come up short.

Mainly changes to options packages, except the new idrive in the 2009s and the competition pkg availability on the 2011s
2008s have been coming off of leases in droves so theyre everywhere.

2009+ have the new taillights, which I think looks much better. If you're getting a NAV system, the 2009+ one is a much, much better system with a better screen, processor and hard drive.

Also the 2010 or 2011 M3s can have the optional Competition Package, which looks awesome.

Only right on one of three:

Nav changes for the better with MY2009+ YES.
New tail lights only in MY2010+
Competition package only in MY2011+

I think the crankshaft bearings were changed in Oct 2008.
Not sure why. I think I remaber a few rare cases of failure.

For the E90 sedan, the taillights were changed for MY2009. For the E92, they changed to LEDs for the 2011 model year.
