E24 (1976 - 1989)
The BMW 6 Series (E24) was the first variant of the 6 series produced by BMW from 1976 through 1989.

A/C Repair or Conversion?

The PO of my car told me before I bought it that he had to add refrigerant each spring. I'm assuming it has not been converted from R12 to R134 but I'm not sure.

Assuming it has not, should I convert? Seems like I should as the cost of R12 is out of sight. What am I looking at as far as the cost of conversion? My car is an '88 model originally sold in Canada if that makes any difference. Thanks.

retro-fits are not that expensive. to do a proper retro-fit you need to change the dessicant, metering block, and use fresh seals on the rest of the system.

use 10% less volume of r134a, and the proper oil.

no need to change hoses or components.

Thanks, I'll try to find a reputable shop that can help me out. If anyone can recommend one in the Hagerstown-Frederick, MD area let me know.
