iPod Question - newbie!

I just picked up my 2005 x3 today. I was looking through the glove box and found an ipod cable.

I plugged in an older ipod and BMW appeared in the display. It also said ok to disconnect.

Any thoughts on which type of connector I might have?

There isn't any manual or reference to the cable anywhere.
