Nevermind, found pump and hoses, pump good, hoses look good. Where do the hoses dissappear to? Particularlly on the passengerside.

Could you tell me where the pump and hoses are? I had my SES light come on and it said "secondard air system". I need to check it myself. Thanks...

U just need to remove your engine cover, u can leave all other covers on and disconnect the air intake tube which is connected to the intake manifold. And the tubes will be there clear as day. Just follow them down to under the airbox that holds the air filter and that where the pump is on passenger side.

My pump is great, its working perfect. Its disconnected on passenger side and I dunno where it goes. Cars running great tho. If my pump was bad I can get. For 40 bucks, but its not.

Does the airpump also control the flap in the right tail pipe on the muffler that opens when the car is under fast acceleration? My SES light came on with p1445, p1413, and p1415 which all seem to do with the secondary air system. The reason I ask about the "flap" is because it is vaccuum operated and is stuck open. Please let me know... any help is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Nope, the vacuum pump on the front of the bank 1 head (passenger side) handles that flap -- the small hose coming out of it. If the hose is unplugged at the dashpot by the tailpipe openings or at the vacuum pump, or if it's leaking anywhere between, it will let that flap open at idle. The flap should be closed near idle, and open otherwise.

Problem resolved today with the help of a smoke test machine. Vaccum hose for the exhaust muffler flap was broken inside of trunk next to navigation system. Two HUGE vaccum leaks on the back side of the valve covers. Two $5.00 seals from BMW and vaccuum leak sealed... codes cleared... no SES light returned.

Where did you get access to the smoke machine?

Block off your vent tube lines on the valve covers & intake, & the engine will smoke on its own. That is how I found the same 2 seals leaking on my 6 series. It was a cheap fix, but a nightmare to find!
