Did you mean you can use the bt on your android to play songs in other cars, just not your bimmer?

I have yet been able to do so in any of our three different vehicles. My wife's iPhone works on all of them, but not through bt, rather the usb ports.

I think our androids are doomed.

I connected my Galaxy Nexus to the BMW yesterday for the first time and it gave me an option to use it as a phone and a music player. I didn't look to see if it let me play music but I will check tomorrow. I also do not recall getting that option with my other android phones but I syncd those awhile ago so I may just not remember. One strange thing that happened was after I connected the phone my touch lost connection.

An Android phone can be connected to the car via Bluetooth and if the Bluetooth Audio option is checked it will stream Pandora or Slacker via the Bluetooth Audio connection to the car and play it through the sound system. I've done this in our BMW several times.

Is the "BT Audio option" on the car or on the phone?

There is an option on the car under Bluetooth but I don't recall what it is. There's nothing about this in the PDF manual for our car and the paper manual is in the car. I'll have to wait until my wife gets home with the car after work tonight.

Are your cars idrive or non-idrive? Iam curious to see if the suggestion above works for non-idrive as well..

I have idrive but mine is a very early 2011 model. I read some idrive functions were added later.

I don't think it will work with a non-idrive car. I have an Android phone and a 2011 335i non-idrive with combox (Oct 2010 build) and I've yet to get the BT stream to work. I believe one of the experts on here (Technic) said it is because of the radio hardware unable to do A2DP streaming. I guess if you have the idrive that hardware portion is corrected. Plus, the BMW website shows it incapable as well, without idrive.

I was able to get a friends iPhone 4S to work through the USB port to stream Pandora and now in a bind...it sounds so much better thru USB than Aux. Damn u BMW! USB won't work with my Android phone either.

I think you need the "BMW apps" option and iDrive to stream audio via Bluetooth. It was a late 2011 avail option (after June 2011?) so anything delivered before that will probably need firmware update to stream audio.

Not true, you only need BMW Apps and an iPhone to stream audio via the BT connection and control it with iDrive. I can stream Pandora and Slacker via the BT connection to my Android phone just fine, but I have to control it on the phone and can't control it through iDrive.

Full step-by-step coming up later.

As promised, step-by-step instructions on how to stream Bluetooth audio from an Android smartphone:

BMW: 335is Coupe, build date April 2011, 609 Navigation System (iDrive), 639 BMW Assist with Bluetooth (part of ZPP Premium Package), 6FL iPod and USB Adapter (includes 6VC Combox controller), no BMW Apps
Phone: HTC Droid Incredible

Setup:
Phone: Bluetooth must be on
Pandora: Menu/Preferences/Bluetooth for Automotive On
Slacker: no additional settings
Car:
  1. Press Telephone button on iDrive controller
  2. Scroll down to "Bluetooth (phone)"
  3. Select by pressing controller
  4. Select paired phone
  5. Press Options button on iDrive controller
  6. Scroll down to "Bluetooth (telephone)"
  7. Make sure that "Bluetooth audio" is checked
  8. Go back and repeat steps 1-3 or back out to paired phone display
  9. Paired phone should show music icon on display

To stream music:
  1. Start Pandora or Slacker on your phone
  2. Press CD button on iDrive controller
  3. Select "External Devices"
  4. Scroll down and select paired phone
  5. Music should start playing through car audio system and display will show "Transfer of track info not supported"
  6. Next track is supported, previous track is not
  7. Picking another station must be done manually on the phone

I'm 99.9% sure idrive is required, but SD posted his steps (with idrive), so if you get it to work on your NON-idrive 3, please post up how you did it. Also, I assume you have the HK sound system? Thx!

Clearly this is not even an option on my early 2011 model.
