677 Premium hi-fi system vs ZPS Premium Sound Package

Hello Guys,
Configuring a 2012 X5 custom order.
Came across hi-fi and premium sound pkg..

What's the difference btw 677 Premium hi-fi system $1,090 vs ZPS Premium Sound Package ($1,365)

How do we choose one and does the base sound system a big no no in quality of sound? There are hardly any X5 with out a premium sound package at my local BMW-to test one for myself
Any advise is appreciate..

Thanks
LL

ZPS includes both 677 (Premium Hi-Fi Sound) and 655 (Satellite Radio).

Ordered with ZPS....we'll see!

I should receive my new premium this week and ordered ZPS; I too could not find any local model with that option however it appears I will have a bit more control over the tone (i.e. - EQ??) and greater output!

That said, I thought the "base" system on the 2912 was already superior in sound quality versus my current 2009 X5. I dunno, could be me sitting in a new car but a new 35i with "Hi Fi" sounded pretty good. I'm not too concerned about it, but I hope my new system allows decent control and sounds great!

I also ordered the premium HI-GI sound package with satellite radio. Dealer had no models with the premium sound package for 2012 either,

My order still says it is scheduled for production but no production date is set :-(

I will touch back once i can comment, likely end of january.

I sat in both at my local dealer. My salesguy really pushed the premium. To be honest I thought the base 12 speaker in the 2012 was good. I am a sucker for lots of power though so I ordered it

Lots of threads on this subject if you search. Seems like most people think its worth it, but at the same time is not on the same level as some of the other luxury mfg's upgraded audio packages...

Here's my take... I think the standard "hi-fi" system in the 2012 X5 is very good. It's certainly way better than the system I had in my 2008 535i. The premium sound is better, but I question whether or not it's $1200 better. Since I mostly just listen to FM radio, I stuck with the hi-fi, but would have got the premium sound if it were $500-$600 more.

Put it this way, I think it's unlikely you'll regret spending the $1200, but you *may* regret not getting the premium sound. I'm still trying to decide if I did the right thing or not

Problem with these "factory upgrades" for audio system is.... they still use inferior paper cones and just slaps more speakers and push with an amp. At the end.. they are just louder.. not more clear...

You just have to ask yourself.. $1200 option over the life of ownership of the car.... hard huh.. I ordered the Premium since I do not want to tinker around with a leased car with speakers and amps with aftermarket solution

You can also try "BSW" route... i have no personal exprience with them...

Agreed for many reasons; I am purchasing and thought hard about doing an upgrade after purchase but am "hoping" that the sound is at least good enough. I listen constantly from many sources and am rather critical. '

If the stars align am picking up my new baby today or by Friday and will DEFINITELY post my "premium sound review" on here.

'12 35i, A82,NASW,4AB,ZCV,ZCW, ZPP,ZPS,ZTP, keeping it with the 19' wheels.....lovely christmas indeed!!

Perhaps you are partially correct but that is not the case for the BMW Individual Sound Sysytem (EPP option 752).

Hopefully not missing something....is EPP 752 even an option for E70? Maybe am/did miss something but thought the options was only at stated for 677.

Page 2 of the pdf lists available models. E70 is not one of them.

You didn't miss anything

I stand corrected, I'm fairly new to this site and just went back through some of your posts. I would have loved to ordered some of the "individual" items you ordered.

Sounds like the EPS isn't much more then the ZPS $2k vs $1,365 not sure whether I would have popped for that or not... hard to tell, its only another $600 but that's on top of the $1,400 I was already wresting with.

Thanks for the info though, I'll definitely investigate the "individual" items a little more on my next ordering experience.

So my order hasn't started produuction I should be able to change the premium sounds to package 752 right?

I wish someone had hands on experience with the two systems and could give some feedback.

I had that system in my E92 M3. It was terrible. But then the stock system was really terrible.

Actually, quite pleased with the premium sound in the x5 though.

For all of the noobs here....

Jim E. is the resident expert. If you are tryuly interested in great sound, you should probably accept what he says before listening to someone with 14 posts who sat in a car at a dealer and feels he has it nailed.

Any system, no matter how high end, will only sound as good as the source material. If you listen to FM (shudder) or SAT radio, don't expect much delta between the base system and the ZPS / 677. Try comparing them with a CD or a high bit rate / lossless recording. You will be amazed. And the 752 will blow you away.

The 677 and 752 also include equalizers, which give you the unfettered ability to make even a great sound system sound like pure crap. Most of the folks I know who hate their sound system have royally screwed up the EQ. Conventional logic like "use a U-shaped curve" result in notoriously bad results in BMW's. (For example, the 752 in my M3 is a SUPERB system; the only way I can imagine anyone thinking it is dreadful is if they totally missed the EQ settings, and are listening to dreadful source material). Luckily, for almost every model out there, some one has gone through the trouble to use a sound pressure meter and publish the proper EQ settings for a flat response. As with so many other items, "Search" is your friend.
