X6 E71 / E72 (2008 - 2014)
The BMW X6 luxury crossover went on sale in April 2008 as a 2009 model year. BMW referes to the X6 as a Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) as it combines the attributes of an SUV (high ground clearance, xDrive and all-weather ability) with the stance, styling and roof line shape of a coupe. The E71 X6 was built off the E70 X5 (2007 - 2013) platform at BMW's Spartanburg, SC plant. Total worldwide sales were just over 235,000, sold mostly to the BRIC countries. US total sales was 34,082 vehicles.

New 2012 X6 or 2008

I currently have the 08 335i X6 and my warranty is up in July. Should I chance not having a warranty for a couple years and keep driving it or just buy a new one?? Has anybody had or heard of any major problems with the 2008 X6. Any thoughts?? Thanks

Trouble Spots
Consumer Guide's® Auto Editors have scoured repair bulletins and questioned mechanics to search for commonly occurring problems for a particular vehicle. In some cases we also give possible manufacturer-suggested solutions. In many instances these trouble spots are Technical Service Bulletins posted by the manufacturer, however, we have our own expert looking at additional vehicle problems.

Alarm system: Occasional false alarms from the antitheft system require reprogramming the control module. (2009)

Audio system: Some iPods may not charge via the original USB adapter cable and a revised cable has been made available. (2007-09)

Electrical problem: Several functions, including the sunroof, interior lights and rain sensor, may stop working due to a module software glitch. (2007-08)

Engine knock: A rattle or clack noise from under the hood when the engine is shut down may be coming from the turbocharger's wastegate caused by pinched vacuum hose. (2008-09)

Engine noise: A whistling noise from under the hood can be traced to a failed gasket between the turbocharger and catalytic converter. (2009)
Consumer Guide® Estimated Repair Costs
This table lists costs of likely repairs for comparison with other vehicles. The dollar amount includes the cost of the part(s) and labor (based on $50 per hour) for the typical repair without extras or add-ons. Like the pricing information, replacement costs can vary widely depending on region. Expect charges at a new-car dealership to be slightly higher.
Item Name Repair Cost
A/C Compressor $1,140
Alternator $710
Automatic Transmission or Transaxle $3,710
Brakes $1,250
Constant Velocity Joints $3,450
Exhaust System $1,490
Radiator $1,060
Shocks and/or Struts $3,490
Timing Chain or Belt $1,310

Mein Auto: BMW, only BMW.
go for the one with N55 engine on it, as less HPFP problems.

The cost is a bit mcuh but, with my x5 and 100,000 miles i never paid for anything on that car...4 sets of breaks etc. It was worth every dollar. Will you drive the x 6 for several more years? If 3 to 4 it wold be wroth the 4,ooo!
