How to turn off the Rear Window Wipers

To turn on the rear window wipers you push the wiper lever forward. How do you turn off the rear window wiper? Its not in the manual.

I have a 535xiT and not an X3 but on my car, I turn the rear wiper off by pulling that same lever toward myself. You could try that.

Pull forward -- toward the steering wheel -- (gently -- you don't want to break the stalk!).

I have pulled forward and that does turn it off but it turns on the wipers in the front and washes the window at the same time.

Believe it! Cat, don't pull so far forward -- just pull it a bit until you feel the detent and stop before the window washing sequence for the front windshield starts. It is easy to feel if you go slowly through the motions.

I was thinking this couldn't be serious either. lol - I mean, even if you pull through forward and start the washing sequence, the rear wipers would have stopped.

Seriously this has to be a joke. Reminds of the blondestar jokes.

Hello Blondestar? Hi I locked the keys in my convertible with the top down and its starting to rain. What do I do?

There is a point of resistance in the stalk as you either push forward or back. I suspect you are pushing/pulling too hard, thus activating the washers. Try doing it gently to feel these detents.

After thinking about this a bit, it could well be that Cat has a problem with the stalk and there is no detent so it just flops back and forth. In any case since warranty is involved here do not try to fix it yourself take it to the dealer and let them look at it. Good luck and a very Merry Christmas!
