Ski Rack Advice

I just installed the new Thule aerodynamic bars and my Thule ski rack that slides out. The place that did the work couldn't mount the ski rack directly to the bars so there's space between the roof and the bar (necessary) and also space between the bar and the rack. My sweet quiet ride just become so loud! Does anyone know of a better setup than what I have? Are the factory installed BMW ski racks a better, more aerodynamic and quieter choice?

I do not understand why there is space between the bar and the rack. I used Thule aerodynamic bars and Thule Deluxe 727 (ski rack) back in Europe in my 530. It was noisy (with skies) only above 180 km/h

Now I am using ski bag in X5, works even better

The thule ski rack slides out making it easier to put the skis on it. If the rack were mounted directly to the crossbars than it will lose the ability to slide (but I might end up doing that just so I can reduce the noise of the rack). I live in the foothills of denver and constantly on the highway - I hear the noise from the rack daily. Ski bag isn't convenient with a family of 4 with everyone skiing...nor would I want to make such a mess of the rear. That's great that it works for you!
