Only for Winter Tyres?

What does it mean on the BMW parts page when it has that a rim is "only for winter tyres"?

Aren't these the same rims that can come directly from the factory with run-flats on them?

I've never seen that one before, but I'm curious to find out why.

If you think about it, there should be no reason why winter tires would be any different. The only thing I can think of is that maybe cosmetically, the rims weren't in good shape, so maybe someone thought they'd only be a step up from steel rims, and not something you'd want to run all year.

Why don't you just call the dealer in question and ask them?

They are brand new rims. This is the same message you see on all dealer sites for this part or any of the other X5 wheels.

Like I said, ask them! I'd be curious to know too.

Likely that wheel is sold by BMW as part of a winter wheel and tire package, and the "only for winter use" is simply poor wording/translation.

Gary, I think you are correct. I'm quite sure BMW isn't making a factory production wheel and then a different wheel for "winter tyres only".

I called 2 different BMW dealerships and they didn't seem to know. BMW USA told me to talk to a technician and not a parts guy.
