Ace, I'm about to order the Dashsoft program and interface. Just want to confirm that it's this 4 in 1 that you're using: http://www.ecusells.com/goods.php?id=2292

I'll be doing the same NAV, MMI update and Ipod installation that you've done. Just have to get some regular service and repair (battery change) stuff out of the way first...

Speak englisez you nerds

What the hell are you referring to when you say 'Facelift' (aside from your old ladies plastic surgery...)

So, I can control my seat heaters (among other things) on my 06 750Li from the MMI, if I get a 'Facelift' ?

Thanks….

Now that is funny!!!!! I noticed that when I installed the facelift MMI, I could bias the seat heating to upper or lower. I did not see this in pre-facelift...........

I didn't have the DVD option though. I just have DVD nav. With this software and following what you have stated I can too watch DVD movies?

You need the DVD Stacker in the trunk to be able to watch DVD movies. The DVD-NAV is only a navigation module only.

My 2004 pre-facelift car has this option in the MMI.

Hey Gents, is there any way that this can be done at the dealer (enabling the DVD viewing up front), If I show them what needs to be done or if I ask them really really nicely?

If you have a DVD stacker in the trunk already, then by default you would have DVD in the front.

If you are adding a DVD stacker then the MMI has to have a code change to show DVD on the front MMI.

If the dealer is adding the DVD stacker, they will code the MMI at the same time.

If you are adding the DVD stacker, I am sure if you asked them nicely they would do it for you.........maybe.........fingers crossed.......

My pre-facelift KW date is 12/03 which means day 12th work day in the year 2003 and my car was a March 2003 760Li....so that makes sense too.....and the HW is HW: 00

And the facelift MMI that I bought off eBay from the States in my car right now is KW 19/06....viz 19th work day in 2006.....

It is definitely a facelift MMI.

It is HW: 03 and KW: 12/07 thats 2007

Mine is HW: 02 and KW: 19/06 thats 2006

If you don't buy it, I just might and then I will sell you my KW: 19/06 and at least you know it works hahahaha
hi guys,

Can someone explain to me the difference between pre and post face lift? I am an IT consultant from Seattle who is just getting his feet wet with a newly purchased 745. I imagine in a few months I may be playing around and customizing some of the electronic components on board. Also I may have missed this earlier on in the thread, what does MMI stand for? I understand it's the front screen, but would like to know the acronym.

thanks,

-c

MMI is the Multi Media Interface....... the screen that you look at in the centre of the dash.
Pre-facelift E65 (short wheel base) and E66 (Long wheel base designated with an L) are from 2002 until Sep 2005......facelift is from Oct 2005 until 2008

735 became 740 V8
745 became 750 V8
760 stayed 760 V12 (Flagship) The 760 is a very different car inside

Go to this link to see the external and internal differences of the pre-facelift and facelift

Blue car is pre-facelift

Also, the facelift MMI has much better graphics, more colours, a much faster processor and it allows you to connect an iPod in place of the CD Changer and get song titles, artist name, album etc whereas the pre-facelift does not..

I have the rear entertainment package in my 07, and thus have the 6-DVD stacker in the trunk. I have a US-spec B7, so I DO NOT have any front viewing by default, not even the source option labeled "DVD" in the front, only in the rear.

So, based on your other answers, my guess is that the dealer can simply change a setting to allow DVD viewing up front, correct? Is this something they will know how to do, or will I have to tell them exactly what needs to be changed (from this thread, I imagine)?

Many thanks, Ace.

Cool

G'day Hossy, yes it is just a code change on the front MMI and then you can have the DVD on the front screen. It is an easy code change. If a dealer says he can't do it .......... tell him to read this post .....

So if im reading this correctly this does me no good for a 2003 745Li to enable AUX to hook up a mp3 player or something?

Good work though im in IT as well and to brick something you have to mess with the firmware changing config files wont brick anything persay , i seen couple post about bricking i recode droid phones , onkyo recievers etc

You can't brick these modules or anything actually. Sure you can disable it, but I always backup the file first before I change things, and if it fails to respond, I reload the file I backed up and it comes back on line again. Believe me I have experimented with many coding variations and I have never had to call on BMW to save me........ I can do it all myself

OK i got some questions

first about my car: 03 745li obviously pre facelift , non dvd stacker, non L7, does have dvd nav

1) i can put in a facelift MMI in my car?
2) since it didnt come with DVD stack , are the wires already ran to back and all i need is the stack and then to code MMI for it?
3) how hard is it to replace MMI? hole dash come out etc?

1. Yes you can put Facelift MMI in your car.
2. No the wires are not there. You will need MOST BUS loops an YES it requires codding
3. Not hard at all to replace MMI
4. Contact member (paper) he should have the facelift MMI for sale that you would need .
