1985 - 325e - clutch problems

Looking for help for my daughter's '85 325e, standard transmission. Bought this sweet car in June. Had been garaged for 25 of it's 26 years, so in very good condition. Ran great, needed a fuel pump, but no AC. Not a problem for daughter, she's used to no air. Fuel pump in tank was pretty easy to take care of.

Then this fall it developed a shifting problem. Son-in-law who loves vintage Volvos took a look at it and got it going again. It had developed a fluid leak. Worked fine for a while, then started having trouble again. Wouldn't shift into lower gears once shifted into a higher one. (shifting between 3-5 was fine) Could start it in gear and go, but at stop lights it was rough trying to get back down to at least 2nd to take off.

So my husband tackled it this time. Master cylinder seemed fine, but the "CONNECTOR TUBE - FROM CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER TO RESERVOIR" broke and had to be replaced. Ordered that (and a spare) and got it going again. Seemed fine. She drove it to work and then it wouldn't shift down again. So now he has changed out the slave cylinder, which didn't help.

He is suggesting it may be the throwout bearing now? Any ideas before we replace all the parts one by one? ;-) Need help ASAP bc she moves back to campus this weekend and has a job that she needs to be able to drive to.
