X5 electrical issue
My BMW x5 is resetting the computer and clock when I turn on the ignition.
Anybody experienced the same problem or know how to fix this? It has been happening intermittently for about 6 weeks. Regards John |

The only time I have seen this was just recently over the Christmas holidays. I hardly drove the vehicle for 3 weeks. New Years day the clock reset to zero when I started. Next day I saw an orange warning light upon starting. Next day the clock reset again. I read all the battery threads around and became quite alarmed. I then drove the vehicle for several days (about 20 miles per day) and it has not returned. I haven't bought a battery maintainer but I am thinking about it. The only reason I haven't yet is because I had left a bluetooth adapter stuck in my OBD-II diagnostic port for the last 4 weeks and just noticed the light is on all the time (even at night locked in the garage).
I think your battery is probably discharged, and I would advise you to not continue to drive the vehicle without fully charging the battery either by driving or by a charger. I would drive it for an extended period for a few days or so to see if it doesn't go away normally (your alternator should charge it up). If you normally drive less than 20 miles per day, you may want to purchase a quality battery maintainer. Better brands to search for are CTEK, Battery Tender, BatteryMINDer. Cheers. |
