Should I wait or should I go?

Hello Everyone,
I am ready to order an M3; I know exactly the color/options I want. However, I am not sure if I should order one now or wait for the new body style or engine. I really don't need a new car, but I want the M3 (have a 335i). If you were going to get an M3, would you wait or would you get it now?
Thank you.

Probably 2 more years for the sedan, and 3 for the coupe. If you can wait that long it might be worth it.

Maybe wait, new M3 will be faster, handle better and get way better mpg and be tech advanced, least that is what I am hearing.
Current is a gas hog and has unimpressive torque.

Get the first and last NA V8 masterpiece before they are gone. I just ordered mine, in 3 years I will get the new M3, maybe.

This is a special moment in time and I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to drive an E92 M3. The E92M3 is arguably one of BMW's finest achievements in the modern era and a special treat for the enthusiast. I am certain M will create a great new F30 M that will post impressive numbers, but the driving experience will most likely be different – better or worse – will be determined by personal needs and desires.

In terms of positioning, my understanding is the F30 M3 Coupe will not be introduced until July 2013 – at the earliest – we won't see cars until the fall of 2013 and maybe not until 2014. In general, I would not want to be one of the first purchasers. IMO a 3 year M3 lease makes a lot of sense at this moment. In three years, BMW will have had a year to sort out the F30 M3, assuming a late 2013 intro, and the market will have settled a bit in terms of pricing. I will be positioned to pick up a F30, or alternatively keep my E92 - a viable, possibly very desirable, option.

As I have said before, in the meantime – I will live in the moment, enjoy the ride in my engaging iconic E92 BMW M3 - I cannot think of a better place....

We won't even see the standard/normal F32 coupe until July 2013, the M model is surely at least a year beyond that.

The current M3 is a known quantity. The F30 is not. If you don't get a new E92/E93 now, you will never get a second chance.

OTOH you will probably still be able to get an F30 in 2018, maybe even longer.

Get the E9X model while you can. You can always trade it in for an F30 if the new one is better.

If it turns out the Mayans were right, you only have 11 months to enjoy it anyway. (Maybe less, if that funny looking mass on your cheek is malignant. You should get that checked out....)

I love post #4. Take this marvelous, wonderful engine beyond 3.5k rpm all the way to 8.4k redline and then tell me how much more torque you need. There's gonna be 15 turbos on that new engine in the next gen, no thanks. I'll take this naturally aspirated Ward's Best Engine winner. As far as gas consumption, I'm only using slightly more than I did in my 328i because I'm using my right foot alot less. If you want the last of a breed get one of these current M3's. You won't be disappointed

"She" is so confused, I bet "she"is actually a dancer at Las Vegas Lounge or some other tranny bar.

Personally, I am thinking I will either buy my M3 sedan at lease end in April or order me a 2012 coupe. I love the V8, regardless of the gas mileage. Things could change, but that is where I am at right now. I love this car.

Hello Everyone,
I really do appreciate all the replies. I have made up my mind and will order an M3. Unfortunately (or maybe not) it will have to be custom built, just like my 335i. I am not in a rush, so it is all good.
I will post pictures of her when she arrives; I guarantee you all, she is going to be marvelous.
I thank you all for the inputs; they have made my decision a lot easier.
Cheers.

I really don't need an V8 motor; I just don't want a car that is going to look "old" in a few months.

I thought about the same thing.

It's not like I need another car. Our other car was running just fine.

Plus, I love what the new M3 sedan is looking like it will be. Very aggressive looking, more torque, better fuel economy, better interior, etc.

But:

(1) I am a BMW-nut
(2) The E92 M3 is such a great car. Still the benchmark at the end of its lifecycle. And it is, IMHO, the pinnacle of 25 years of naturally aspirated M3s.
(3) I love buying models towards the end of their cycle, or at least after the first couple of years. Problems sorted out, more and better options (e.g. ZCP), more things thrown in for the same price, etc.
(4) We are at least 2.5 - 3.5 years ago from the 2nd year model of the new M3 sedan and new M4 coupe (I never buy the first year of anything - I learned that lesson already)
(5) I can always pick up a new F80/F82 M3/M4 if I like it. But I can never buy a new E92 M3 again.
(6) I am a BMW-nut

Your mileage may vary.

My guess is the new M3/4 will be a joy to drive despite the gripes about turbos and such. I would not wait though, I wouldn't get into the new car until its gone into at least the second model year and thats a lot of miles you could be driving in one now.

Nah. My '10 M5 is a gas hog. Single digit MPG around town. The M3 is a Prius in comparison.
