Is SA honest?? Config.com -VS- dealers word

This is whats happening. I talked to a sales associate about ordering an X5 5.0. I used BmwConfig.com. We agree on everything except the base invoice price. The web site says the base invoice price for an X5 5.0 is 58,695. The sa says that price is wrong. Can someone please shead some light on this for me. My question is..........Can the web site be wrong with its pricing? Is the base invoice price the same for every BMW dealer? Are the options & package prices correct on this site? My sa said he has the UPDATED prices. Is he lying to me?

Try another site. I used to use http://www.edmunds.com for Honda's, Acura's and one Audi (I haven't bought a new BMW), and always found them to be very accurate. If it double-checks, sales associate is likely mis-informed. (Frankly, I've run into more sales folks that simply don't get or understand that pricing online is accurate, readily available and what they're being handed is sometimes inaccurate! As opposed to flat out lying.)

This is an easy one to solve. What you are dealing with is INVOICE PRICE vs. DEALER COST. Often, when you say "Invoice Price" to a dealer, he's going to assume you mean his cost. His cost may include a "Training Fee" and "MACO" (which varies by state). These are NOT included in the BMWConfig.com INVOICE PRICE.

Also, make sure you are selecting the correct 2012 X5 35d in the dropdown on BMWConfig.com. Last time I checked the site, there were a couple of different line items to reflect base price changes (one pre-Oct 2011, one post-Oct 2011, and one post-Jan 2012). Prices do change, so that is normal.

Going back to the INVOICE PRICE vs. DEALER COST debate, I wouldn't get too bogged down in the details. Simply take the INVOICE PRICE shown on BMWConfig.com, and if the sales price is $1000 or less above that number (regardless of what he claimes his cost is), you're doing fine. Remember, of course, this is the price before any rebates/incentives are applied. You need to do careful research to calculate what rebates/incentives you are entitled to.

Published Invoice is a constant. There is one number.

Unfortunately Edmunds and KBB have different numbers... what you want is a copy of the wholesale BMW price sheet. Used to get posted here until someone complained.

Other places have other numbers..what they include in "invoice" is the problem- BMW does NOT include destination, training or maco...but then when you buy a car at close to the dealer cost it is fair to add these real costs back in...this confuses the pricing sites - they like a single 'invoice' then only add the 'options' you click on....(when you have to add a 'mandatory $200 training, or $350 maco, then people say "i dont want MACO) and makes it difficult. So some just bury this in the 'invoice' they display.

Have your CA just enter in your order and twist the computer screen around for you to see:

My last two purchases this was shared with me. (Albeit I had already established that I had those numbers, so he was just confirming the configuration)

Anyone who uses "ALBEIT" in everyday conversation is my hero. Verily.

Jon Shafer did mention once (I believe in the Ask-A-Dealer forum) that bmwconfig's invoice price for base has been off for some models.
