Once your driving the F30, you will forget all about "angel eyes" and "textured wood trim" it sounds like you are concerned on the image, a benz 250 might be a better option if that is the case. You get the F30 is your main priority is driving enjoyment.
Point taken on the triviality of these things. But if driving enjoyment was my only concern, I'd save some cash and buy a 5.0 Mustang or a Mazdaspeed3 or something.

The 3 series is a sport / luxury sedan and I'd like some of these appearance and luxury features without sending the options tab through the roof.

Don't worry, I'll buy one anyway!

They do not have the refinement of the BMW in terms of driving. Not even close.

I agree with some of the others who've pointed out BMW will make money on the options. That has always been their business model. For the person who enjoys the car just for the way it drives, the base car is an unbeatable value. BMW has put all of the money in the drivetrain (the refinement and safety features cost money) and let you build whatever one wants on top...at a cost.

Frankly, I would happy if they offered even less stuff (no power rear windows, no automatic climate control, etc.). The only thing that I want is that they be upfront about what is being offered in the car so I can choose to upgrade the pieces that I care to. The sneaky de-contenting that they did with the E9x was completely out of character.

Can't understand BMW not offering or HGSL as an option on these luxury cars when Japanese cars put HGSL as standard on some of there cars. The HGSL just makes it so much nicer and not look like some base car.

Carmakers cheapout everywhere now. BMW is no different, and in fact they have partaken in this "cost-savings" as we call it in the industry like no other the past 5 years. The mantra is why should we spend the extra money when no one else does.

I like the regular plastic anyway, easier to keep clean.

*Yes there is HUD. This isn't 1985, HUD is also not worth extreme cash.
Agreed at 2.5k it's way overpriced, however they certainly are worth more than $100, IMO...$800 max with HUD. Perhaps BMW made it hideous on purpose, more 2.5k takers, as much as many would like to forgo that option. Ha

There appears to be a vertical slight bump out on the back inside wall on the center console with a hole in the middle.

I was looking at the official brochure (downloaded from bmwusa.com) and it says "4 12-volt power sockets", although I have no idea where they all are:

Per the owners manual, it seems the 4 outlets are located:
  • at bottom of dash center console behind cupholders
  • passenger side hidden underneath glover compartment
  • at the bottom rear of the arm rest/rear center console facing back seat
  • trunk area

Re: new info on power outlets..

Good to know! When I said center console, I meant to say center armrest storage compartment, where I am used to seeing it in my E92.
Doe the E90 have 4 outlets? My E92 only has 2.
