Navigation System Installation

I am looking at buying a 2009 pre-owned X5. There is no navigation system and I was wondering if it's feasible to have installed? The salesperson said it couldn't be done and to buy a Garmin or use your Iphone. Any insights?

Buy a Garmin. The BMW navi is a POS

Yup absolutely.

You could either get a system based on the current year of your car ... Cheaper ... Or replace more components and install the newest 2012 system with apps ... BT streaming .. 3d map rendering etc.

The last thing I would want is sticking a crappy aftermarket navi on my windshield. Idrive is so much more that nav. That's just one feature of the system.

The 2009 CCC navigation is definitely a POS, but it's nice not having a GPS hanging off my windshield.

OP, if the vehicle doesn't have built-in navigation, getting a Garmin/TomTom is probably a better choice. For the price of the update discs ($300), you can get a very nice third-party device with lifetime updates.

Let me get this right. You want to buy a 2009 and the ONLY one you can find doesn't have NAV? I'm amazed that there aren't at least another ...... five? six? maybe more? .... 2009's coming off lease within the next 90 days?

I mean, a 2009 X5 is not exactly a rare, bespoke collectible.

I like the factory nav (for all its shortcomings), partly because it also gives you voice command, which I find incredibly useful. If you want factory nav, try shopping just a wee bit more.

Try finding one? It shouldn't be that hard. It's not like BMW doesn't sell thousands of these.

How about a 2010 so you get the new iDrive?
