3 series wagon (F31) confirmed for US at NAIAS

http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2012...d-gains-speed/

"What they said: The bread-and-butter sedan arrives in showrooms this winter, with all-wheel-drive and ActiveHybrid versions appearing in the fall. Those awaiting further spinoffs must sit tight. “A new coupe and convertible are a ways away,” a BMW spokesman, Thomas Plucinsky, said in an interview last week. “We may see them toward the end of 2013.” Mr. Plucinsky confirmed that BMW would continue to offer a 3 Series wagon in America, to be unveiled this year." - NYTimes

I'll say thanks to BMW NA once its confirmed that a manual transmission will be available in the F31, especially in RWD and with a diesel!

That's definitely a minority, heh. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to special order one that way.

If history is any indicator, the touring version will look better than the sedan. But I'm guessing they'll probably just offer a 328xiT........maybe a MT if they feel generous. Definitely not deluding myself here.

I'll settle for "manual transmission" alone...

Nice to know. I bet the 6MT will be optional.

If only BMW designs a space to fit a spare, then all's well.

NO PROBLEM with the E91 and F31!

BMW (and Mini) were years (decades!) ahead of these times!

Brian ---

Thanks for spec-ing out the car I want as well!
My 2007 E91 ZSP is approaching 100K miles. Eagerly awaiting the next one to arrive.

If it has diesel --- especially a 2.0 L diesel and manual trans ---- I'm "all in".

For the E91's they ofered both 328i and 328xi.

God forbid if they only brought the 328xi. Now, history tells us that the 328xi wagon arrived first, then 1 year later, the 328i Touring arrived.

I'm patient enough to wait till 2014 model year.

It will depend on sales. My hunch is, and the used market seems to confirm, that xDrive wagons generally outsell rear-wheel drive wagons. Don't get me wrong, I like a rear-wheel drive anything but sales numbers must justify the sale of a future product.

The E61 535xiT was AWD only... ..but at least they imported the 6-speed manual.

It's possible that since the wagon is such an offbeat model and most are ordered anyway they'll just let us build 'em any way we want. There's little downside for them since not every single permutation requires individual EPA certification. (I'll take an Alpine 335i RWD 6-speed manual M sport with the Alcantara seats, thank you!)

Either way, I purchased the BMW extended warranty so I won't even run out of warranty on the E91 until December 2014.
